The second verse also means: If I'm a pagan of the good times My lover's the sunlight (referring to their lover's penis) To keep the Goddess on my side She demands a sacrifice To drain the whole sea (Orgasm) Get something shiny Something meaty for the main course That's a fine looking high horse What you got in the stable? We've a lot of starving faithful That looks tasty That looks plenty This is hungry work Whole last part is about sucking their lover's cock. >.> |

@[kltsin:1034] Also We've a lot of starving faithful That looks tasty That looks plenty This is hungry work Is about fellatio. |

| @[david52665:1031] Moses parted the seas, and all good Christians are required to tithe at least 10% of their earnings to the church. You buy your way into Heaven. | |

@[ElectraHeart2000:9] You're mistaken on a few counts. In Biblical terms, Lucifer sat to the left hand of God. He's pulling her in the wrong direction. Also, the Cowboy section. He's a cowboy in New York City; he's Completely out of his element. This is a song about a man who knows he's bad for this girl, but she's the greatest thing that's ever happened to him. they keep pulling each other down in hopes she'll stay with him, but they keep getting separated. 'And they come unstuck.' This is a song from the perspective of an abuser. And honestly, I'm not 100% convinced this song is about a woman. It's quite probably about the substance he's abusing; alcohol. |

Wait 'til you're announced We've not yet lost all our graces The hounds will stay in chains Look upon your greatness and she'll send the call out Send the call out This is a school dance. The kids are segregated on each side (boys on one and girls on the other.) They're waiting for someone to make the first move. Call all the ladies out, they're in their finery A hundred jewels on throats A hundred jewels between teeth Now bring my boys in, their skin in craters like the moon The moon we love like a brother, while he glows through the room Dancin' around the lies we tell Dancin' around big eyes as well Even the comatose, they don't dance and tell So a guy steps forward and asks if a girl wants to dance. She's dressed for prom in a fancy dress she'll probably never wear again, with her best jewelry on. However, her teeth are in braces. A disco ball spins around on the ceiling. It adds a calming atmosphere as the music starts to play. Everybody is putting on airs, because that's what we're taught to do. they're all in their make-up, they exchange insincere compliments and pretend to be interested in what each other has to say. We live in cities you'll never see onscreen Not very pretty, but we sure know how to run things Livin' in ruins of a palace within my dreams And you know we're on each other's team The cities they live in are real; and in some ways ugly. They contrast the perfect suburbs on TV and in movies. Even though it's nothing like the fantasy world, they still come together and support each other in the form of a community. I'm kind of over gettin' told to throw my hands up in the air So there So all the cups got broke Shards beneath our feet But it wasn't my fault And everyone's competing for a love they won't receive Cause what this palace wants is release The perfect life presented in the media, which they were all drinking in, got shattered by a harsh reality. But it's no one's fault the real world can't emulate the fantasy. And everyone's fighting to get there, buying up all the make-up and exercise machines they think will give them the perfect body; the perfect life. Because they feel it's the only way they can be loved, or to love themselves. because all the rich want is more money. I'm kind of older than I was when I reveled without a care So there We're on each other's team And you know we're on each other's team We're on each other's team And you know and you know and you know I think, by the end, she's saying that the entire world is like this. We're all one, big community that was taken in by all the excess of Hollywood. We follow the steps of this dance, hiding our true selves behind layers of make up and expensive clothes; lying to ourselves and others because we're taught only about false happiness. But as we become more experienced in life, we realize that we can only truly be loved for who we are. She's over playing the game. |
