To me, this song has obvious time travel aspects as mentioned previously. However, without reading the lyrics closely, I heard "sync" as "sea." This made me interpret the direct lyrics as pilots knowing their plane had malfunctioned, and was about to crash into the sea. The lyrics and music of the song are the two knowing their time in this life was over, and that they were simply frozen together knowing that their lives were about to end. All the uncertainty of the afterlife, or lack thereof had them clinging towards each other for some sort of comfort together through it all. The heavy rift at the end signified to me the fear of the unknown as it was actually happening.. (Explode,) Like one can calm themselves about the idea of death until it actually happens, then they are all alone no matter whom or what they try to cling onto in this life.. The 'calm after the storm' transition from the heavy rift at the end to the calming music at the very end of the song that goes back and forth throughout the song signifies death to me for some reason.. Their last moments were those of fear to calm, fear to calm, until their lives were over. In the end, the fear of 100% knowing their demise due to no other choice led to the calm at the end of the song despite the transitions to freak out to accepting their fate.. Pilots or simply someone on their death bed clinging to a significant other or other family member for moments of peace before death and the transition to the unknown.. Nevertheless, this is my favorite song off their newest album, which blew me away, and it is truly a timeless masterpiece that is under appreciated IMO. |
