According to Brandon Masraf live, this song is a letter to his father who is banned from the US due to his involvement in diamond smuggling. I assume this song is basically about the desire to go to his father and meet him again (even though he's a hundred thousand miles away) and make him proud but this song emulates his frustration at his father and the entire situation. It's basically a lot of mixed feelings of love and blame. |

I believe the meaning of this song is amplified by the low quality of the audio. I think it's supposed to be a recording a man makes for either a close female friend or girlfriend who is very very depressed. He continually says ways that he'll try to help her if she hates herself and they all reflect a deep understanding of the ways of depression, that maybe she can only lay there and do nothing until the feeling passes, if it ever does. He'll feed her strawberries (not sure the significance of the widow, potentially just to emphasize the melancholy but it could be more), go down on her to give her physical comfort. The broken glass is saying he'll bring himself to the same point as her and they could go through it together, if that's what she wants. He'll quit college and just sit and watch TV with her until she feels alive again. I really was thrown off by the audio quality at first, but I think it makes the song even more impactful because it feels like something a regular guy recorded for someone he loves, whether platonically or romantically, to tell her he will do whatever it is she needs and it's okay for her to not be okay right now, even if she hates herself, he'll stay with her and weather the storm. |
