To be honest, it surprises me that so many people it's a break-up song. I think it's about someone battling with depression. Leaving scars, tearing love apart - that's what depression does to a person. I assume she's singing to a personification of her depression or her past self. She grew stronger, but the demons of the past come back to haunt her. ("now you want me one more time") This time, she makes a stand and fights back. One could argue that the lines " I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed,'cause you broke all your promises" suggest that it's a song about breaking up with someone, but in my opinion it also makes sense if she's singing about her personified depression. "the first time that we kissed" -> the first time it took hold of her etc. |
