| Cass McCombs – Wheel of Fortune Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Seems like it's about doing a bunch of drugs and realizing you're really into Tarot. Srsly, though--I love this song. Especially the opening guitar thingy that happens. The falsetto vocals are insane. | |
| Cass McCombs – Tourist Woman Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This song might be about entitled westerners travelling and bragging about how much of a badass they were for sleeping on a dirt floor or something. Who knows? However, the best part of this song is the guitar solo. Crazy evil surfer music. | |
| Cass McCombs – The Burning of the Temple, 2012 Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I love the last verse about freedom. To me, it's about escaping the clutches of always having to have an opinion or something to say. "Free to wander. Free to dream or stay. The right to remain silent or the right words to say." Sometimes I just don't want to talk. Deal with it. Also, killer saxophone throughout the song. Musically, this song is the best on the album. |

| Cass McCombs – Pleasant Shadow Song Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
"You scoff at my card Guess I'm no Abelard" Pierre Abelard was a French intellectual who was considered "all-knowing" in his day. Perhaps this line is someone reading someone's tarot and admitting he doesn't know all. "I don't know ..." just how far is Beulah" Perhaps this is a reference to someone asking a tarot reader when he will die and not knowing the answer. "Beulah" refers to the afterlife or a separate and peaceful existence. I think the entire song is a frustration with living on earth. Lyrics such as "Ill will and looks" refers to the cruelty of humans and a wish to just get to the afterlife already. "and shadow a long twilight Always to play and sleep through the day for music and night" This is my favorite part of the song -- not only for the lyrics, but also for the way it's sung. |

| Cass McCombs – My Master Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Seems like a conversation I had with a paranoid co-worker... | |
| Cass McCombs – Multiple Suns Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Also...a reference to Donald Duck orange juice, which was a thing in the 80s. I used to beg my mom for that brand because it had no pulp and it tasted better than other OJ. Hilarious. | |
| Cass McCombs – Multiple Suns Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
A strange and interesting combination of celestial objects like suns, planets and the Greek gods and goddesses they are named after. Suns = gods or guardians in some ways. Reference to -"Pomegranate light" refers to Persephone/Hades -"harpies scatter" refers to the Odyssey -Who the hell is Klock? He appears in many of his songs. Kind of seems like he takes on a guardian angel role in many of his songs. |

| Cass McCombs – Full Moon or Infinity Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I went through the same thing when I became a werewolf back in the day. Nostalgia. | |
| Cass McCombs – To Every Man His Chimera Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| same title as a Baudelaire short story about watching men carry huge burdens. Story appears in the "Paris Spleen". | |
| Cass McCombs – Lionkiller Got Married Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This song is about gossip to me. It's written from the point of view of gossipy or superficial friends who are against a marriage--hence "I heard..." being repeated. I think he's saying "C.U. Next Tuesday" to his friends and not his wife or ex wife. | |
| Cass McCombs – It Means a Lot to Know You Care Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Sounds like Steely Dan. Cool chords. | |
| Cass McCombs – Healing Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I love this song because it's so nice and innocent and then he says something hilarious like "to friends and lovers...that I've fucked over". Totally ruins it in a good way. Kind of reminds me of when Karen Black sings "I hope you all die!" during her version of "Brighter!" |
|
| Cass McCombs – Empty Promises Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| to me, it's about how materialism and capitalism has tainted society. | |
| Cass McCombs – Buried Alive Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I like this song because it's really simple. To me, it's a thought experiment on what it would be like to wake up buried alive. What you would smell and see and feel, etc. | |
| Cass McCombs – Brighter! Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This song is about the tyranny of fame or being in the spotlight. It's about expectations of stardom and how much brighter one is pressured to become. | |
| Cass McCombs – A Comedian Is Someone Who Tells Jokes Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I think this song is about politicians. A comedian is someone who tells jokes, and it's sad that politicians are now the people we laugh at. | |
| Cass McCombs – Bobby, King of Boy's Town Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Seems like it's about a gay kid who got out of a small town and moved to Boystown in Chicago. "The straight world is anything BUT / In fact, it's rather crooked" is my favorite line. |
|
| Cass McCombs – Harmonia Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I never knew he was saying "the psilocybin began its effects" ...now this song has a whole new meaning to me. Maybe mushrooms make the world a friendlier place. | |
