I don't know what this song is about, but I've always imagined it from the point of view of a geeky librarian, heartbroken and kneeled over on the grass with his fists reaching towards the sky, as his love (the library) goes up in flames. In the crowd he sees two lovers together staring at the fire, clearly in love, which leads the protagonist to feel silly for comparing his love for the library to that of the two lovers. The tweet tweet like little birds part reminds me of a siren. |
