I think this song is about his ex-girlfriend. He describes his relationship with her like being a customer of a prostitute (Regular John). He was probably just one of her lovers and didn't even know her, she was somewhat a mystery (who are you girl?) So in that case he asked himself why he was still with her (who are you boy?) The "Where's your daddy now" part also confirms my thoughts a bit. But still "he's not the only one with a knife" - she had many lovers before that groped into her trap. "I bet you know what you're up to" - she knows what she does... And the phone number may have been her actual number. |
