I've always imagined this song being the last interaction between a person and their SO in a hospital room. "You'll wear your blue dress" would refer to the hospital gown. "I promise I'll wake you" is a morbid promise he knows he can't keep. The trip through the field and the ride are the things he wants her to picture before she passes. He takes her through a perfect day. "Show me your anger. Hit me like you used to. We're no longer in danger."--The last few lines I picture being the moments where she is finally letting go and he wants to see the life/fight in her, until finally he lets her go. |
