| Rhye – The Fall Lyrics | 11 years ago |

After watching the music video, I decided it's about the protagonist having a crisis about his or her marriage. They've been together for a long time now, and they no longer have as much fun together as they used to. He/she feels as if they're drifting apart, much to his/her vexation; Or rather, the protagonist wishes they hadn't grown up so fast, and could relive their days of young-love. In the video, the guy remains the same age throughout. His wife seems to switch back and forth between herself and her younger-self (either flashbacks or simply in the guy's mind/fantasy). He misses the fun-loving nature of her younger self. The song represents his plea for her to step back and remember when things weren't always so serious, and bring back a little newly-wed fun to their seasoned marriage. |

I too like to think it's about the Ancient Astronaut theory. I don't subscribe to it, but it is absolutely fun to think about. I'd love to think there's more to us than what's here on Earth. That said, I don't enjoy the God idea as much as originating from creatures who are virtually as clueless or as orphaned as us. I intend no offense to anyone, of course. I interpret the narrator as being tired of not knowing, and expecting that our "alma species" or divergent kind is coming back for us either to answer all of our questions, or to destroy us. Either way, he/she just wants the anticipation to end. |

| Chevelle – Saferwaters Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I agree with the suggestions that the subject wishes to withdraw from typical society--even to regress to our more primal roots, as far back as our sea-dwelling ancestors. I think virtually everyone beyond the age of 20 or so has at some time come to the realization that the more you know, the more complex and tiresome life can feel. Personally, I sometimes still wish I could retreat back to my more innocent, naive state of mind as a child. No politics, impending disasters, harsh realities, etc. Ignorance certainly can be bliss. I'm not suggesting it's the "correct" interpretation, but it's what this song means to me. It has a borderline introspective theme to it, and I dig that immensely. |

| Chevelle – One Ocean Lyrics | 11 years ago |

My first impression upon hearing this song and reading through the lyrics was a sort of "rebirth" of the narrator. Not strictly in a religious sense, but more so he/she realized that there's no long-lasting joy in being or pretending to be someone or something you're not--it is cathartic to be who you really are, rather than live within illusions in part created by cultural and societal pressures that dilute genuine characters. Subconscious human nature wishes to remain in this ocean, true to one's self as it's the most mentally and emotionally efficient way to live. Or possibly, this "ocean" represents a pool of people in that everyone is becoming what they believe others want them to be--everyone perpetually becoming more and more alike. This cathartic "rebirth" of character is represented by surfacing and seeing the rest of the world from another perspective. Of course, my initial interpretation of Saferwaters was about a human wishing to regress back to his/her more primal roots, away from society (such as the evolutionary observation that our lineage traces back to sea-dwellers). Perhaps I'm just obsessed with the drive of the human subconscious and the intangible history held within our genetic complexes. Some of this sounds stupid even to me; and obviously, there's a great chance my interpretation is other than that of the songwriters'. I tend to believe people love to overthink things, and it's possible I'm doing that right now. Mostly I just wanted to comment to exclaim my appreciation for the French horns in the closure. They were an unexpected surprise to me and gave me chills when I first heard this song (actually, they still do). |
