The Song Begins with "From the day we arrive on the planet". The Critical word is "We" meaning all land dwelling oxygen breathing species including the Human Race. Africa is The Mother Land of Most Land Dwelling Creatures including Humans. There is only a few lines to this song that give meaning to the message of the song. "Til we find our place, In the path unwinding, In the circle of life". The Song then Defines what the Circle of Life is. It Defines the Circle of life as... "it moves us all, Through despair and hope, Through faith and love"... Through what this says and through what the movie entails. It pretty much tells us that who ever shall uphold the title of King of the Food Chain, metaphorically the Human Race but in the Movies case The Lions. It is our responsibility to uphold that the Circle of Life shall not be hindered even though we depend it for survival. So in Short...our place in the path that has already been unwinded before us, is to make sure the circle of life continues. To me this song gives message to the unnatural damages that the human race has inflicted on the animal kingdom that has caused animals to unnaturally become endangered. There was a time when the Human Race was not on top of the food chain. In despite this, the Circle of Life has gave us the ability to love, to have faith, and to obtain hope. The song is telling us that we must find our place and give back and uphold the circle of life, and not forget where we came from and make sure that the circle of life (That is all species of life) continues in a never ending unwinding for all life. |

Peter Gabriel got deep involved in humantarian work after this song. You can look at the concerts in clearly see he is talking about humanity in general. He says that he gets lost in love but the love he means is his love in his partner or having a partner. The songs tempo changes upward as if a Epiphany has arisen from above. He feels empty because he has no direction in life. But then he says the Grand Facade should soon burn. Which he is saying he is no longer trying to pretend anymore. He find his completeness in helping others. In a nut shell the song is about finding yourself by helping others and the love for humanity instead of the wasting your emotions on someone in particular. |

| I can see how people will get the song confused with god and the love for a woman. But in fact you are all correct. Peter Gabriel loves to reference god and he is a strong advocate in Humanitarianism. In most of his concert, he has a african singing the course "Your Eyes". He is speaking about pure love for humans. I thinking he wanted to wield two to give a double meaning since they both represent the samething. When you look in to someones eyes, you can sometimes see yourself. He looks into that persons eyes and sees a resolution to the worlds problem. The lack of love for someone just being a human. Not even a thousand churches to open this door. He relates it to churches because Jesus Christ is the Messiah of Humanism and since his death, the establishment has exploited his teachings to impossible matters. I almost cried when I heard this song in concert. Cause it was the setting his was at, the advocation he was making that it was clear he wishes for world peace. | |
