| Death from Above 1979 – Going Steady Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I feel like this song is about the parents seeing a girl ‘going steady’, with a lover or maybe a boyfriend, but they are not ready to see her fall in love. This is the first part of the lyrics. ‘She is going steady But we're not ready To see her fall in love’. They don’t want to let her go yet. And then, there is also the other perspective, I guess, of the lover of the girl, who says ‘I will never make you suffer, I will never hurt your mother’. Means; I will never hurt you or your parents’. So it’s the lover trying to console her, and trying to pull her away from the grip of the parents. We have the woman in the middle, feeling the two forces trying to pull her, I guess that’s what the song implies. The music all in all is also really furious and aggressive, which might also be underlining the force of the emotions trying to pull the girl from one party to the other party. |

| Death from Above 1979 – Black History Month Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| There was a time when the city was such a nice place, for everyone, for architects, for the astrologists, for the parties in the water, but also, there is sin, there is the blow-up dolls, which refer to sex, and then, everyone is leaving, so that’s kind of about that it’s not like it’s used to be anymore. BUT, it’s named Black History Month, which is about the black history, which is mostly really bad, cause, it’s about segregation and about racial tensions and still to this day, about white people leaving the black neighbourhoods. Because of the title, it might refer to the whitey’s leaving the black neighbourhood. This might explain the ‘you parents are leaving’ lyric. But then, what I also like is; that it has the blow-up dolls and the water-guns (an obvious phallic symbol), which I guess refers to the sin, the sex, the lust, which everyone has. So, it refers to our animal level. So it’s also about hypocrisy. The hypocrisy of memory. | |
| Death from Above 1979 – You're a Woman, I'm a Machine Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I felt like this song is about what it is sometimes like for a man, in the relationship with the woman. I sometimes feel as if, as a man, you really try anything you can to get a girl to like you and to, maybe have sex with her. Hence, the 'take what you want, my head is full'. and the you want it all, just like you should'. I means that you just want her to say what she wants, because... then you have more chance to get more into her comfort zone. Also, the, now that it's over, just wipe it off my shoulders', I feel like that's about them finally having sex. And the, 'I love you more and more', it means that now do finally did it, he feels as if the mission is accomplished, and now he can start to love her. The title also refers to this 'you're a woman, i'm a machine', it refers to that man sometimes need to act like 'machines', and show no emotion at all and have a big shield around their own problems, if they want to have a chance to get it on with a woman. Hmmmm,, What do you guys think ? |
