The Outfield – Your Love Lyrics 9 years ago
Ok. One of the Colorado Rockies, Charlie Blackmon, selected this song for when he comes to the plate, and hearing the lyrics at the game today I wanted to see what other people thought - I just sort of thought the lyrics were kind of gross, manipulative and the person is sort of a mess, perhaps not intentionally but I say momma look out there's some bad road ahead with this guy. Also how just utterly sexist and conceited to say "I like my girls a little bit older." Like he's talking about how he likes his cheeseburger prepared. These are people dude. As for meaning. Really...? Do we need to really discuss what this song's about? One. Night. Stand. Blaaargh.

Awolnation – Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf) Lyrics 10 years ago
Agree with Something Cool. I saw Bruno quoted as telling a reporter that the song "reflected his struggle with making Run." but he refused to elaborate (i think that's a very smart move for an artist). To me, I thought the song seemed to suggest a person in essence "giving in" to that part of his behavior that contributes to destructive tendencies, with all of the things that plague a person's inner self being the "bad Wolf." when i say giving in, i mean acknowledging. He's angry, because this has been going on for a long time (I've been running from it all my lifetime.") and he's telling the person who is listening (you) that one of the destructive tendencies is that he views the world as maybe moving too slowly for him, and this causes conflict and this is his attempt to show that he's trying (there's nothing wrong with you") but rather it's all him (i'm searching for my right mind"). The metaphors of a dream, a moon and a wolf conjure up stories like the "Bear Skinner" where the soldier sells their soul in a deal with the devil. I think also he is demonstrating his anger at not being approachable and maybe very introverted but he clearly sees that there is a path out of this ("I'll be back from the dead soon.). Not sure if the "motherfucker" is the same person he references in the first part of the song (there's nothing wrong with you). I think maybe he's the motherfucker and is willing himself to complete that part of the journey. I find this song really hits a cord for me, and probably for many people that feel that they have withdrawn (run away) and cannot relate to others (the copycats and the lazy brats). Fantastic album. I love the songs. I know that Awolnation was started as a side project - i hope the band continues to produce this type of art for a long, long time.

Vance Joy – Riptide Lyrics 11 years ago
Could the lyrics be a direct reference to the film Midnight Cowboy: Here's the synopsis from IMDB:

Joe Buck (Jon Voight) leaves his job as a dishwasher in a small town in Texas, and gets on the bus heading for New York City. There he plans to use his considerable (from what the local girls have told him) manly talents to make a splash with (and a good living from) wealthy, high-society women. He is dogged by flashbacks to experiences from his childhood -- suggestions of violence, sexual abuse and abandonment -- yet somehow he has retained an upbeat spirit of hopefulness, joy, and enthusiasm for life. His kindness and generous spirit is heart-rending, and of course, his naïveté makes him an easy target in the big city. He does not learn from being ripped off initially, but his trusting spirit remains intact when he meets the sickly and streetwise Ratso (Dustin Hoffman). "My name is Enrique Salvatore Rizzo ... Call me Rico ... Im not Ratso ... In my own home, call me Rico." After initially conning Joe out of twenty dollars, they eventually become friends, companions, and soul mates. With Ratso taking over the management side of the hustling operation, they set about finding the wealthy women with whom Joe hopes to make his fortune, not just for himself, but for Ratso, too. As Ratso's health becomes more of an issue, Joe faces dark choices, leading him to actions he never anticipated.
