the line "among the trees" has always stuck with me. something about the cadence and the picture it leaves in my mind is beautiful. this is probably a huge stretch, but i finally figured out where i recognized the line from, and maybe part of an explanation for why it resonates with me so strongly. it certainly wouldn't be out of step with the lyrical themes that run through a good deal of Black Francis' music.

i think it has a lot of similarities to Thumb from Green Mind. it's self-deprecating. he knows he's in love with this chick, but he also knows that he's no good for her. he's too much of a loser. too unambitious. too spineless. he's not worth it |
