You don't find a "suicide note" put to music "depressing"? WTF? "Jolly and Hopeful"...?! What the hell meds are you on and why don't you share? This is mostly how Deb's life will be after he's gone. And it all came true. All of it. And yes...she lives on an "avenue all lined with trees". That's a fucked up coincidence, isn't it? |

That was a well-known reference between him and Deb about living iin the shithole "Macclesfield" and how if and when he makes it, they'll live (or she'll live out) in "avenues all lined with trees". Then it all came true. All of it. And she does (Deb and his Daughter). You couldn't put a more direct suicide note to music. |

I think the whole song is pretty much to Deb. It's part apology but part "thanks" for putting up with him and it will all pay off soon (in the form of royalty checks..which took a while, but did). I was around when all this was going down and I firmly believe that. They often joked about the shithole they lived in (Macclesfield) and how it would be nice to live in "avenues all lined with trees". And this is his way of promising her she and his Daughter would have just that...just put up with him and often "think of me". |

I think most people are looking at this all wrong. This is between him and Deb. This has very little to do with Annik. This is Ian basically telling Deb she has nothing to worry about soon, especially financially, as they had often joked about living in "avenues all lined with trees"...and he delivered. In the form of royalty checks. He just wants her to always think of him. |
