I always wondered what Jimi was singing about, but I never took the time out of listening to the song to try and understand it. The funny thing is I always thought he said " just ask the answers"- which is a cool line, but apparently he says axis:(.
I think his lyrics are just as usual- poetic, free, creative. In a documentary on Jimi I saw the original lyrics (rough draft) on tattered paper- it was chicken scratch with crossed out lines and somewhat illegible. I would think he was simply on a creative high (plus any other highs at the time) and wrote this song which is about love, colors,... What they mean to him- but I'm still lost.... Its like he's talking about war,,, the axis powers.... Red ... army.......... Purple Heart.... I don't know. But it's a great song and is bold, even I don't get all of it. |

I think this song is about the pursuit of happiness and that he has experienced the greatest gifts and joys the world (and god) has to offer- yet .... He is still looking, cause life goes on! The journey continues... It's such a positive song. He's not listing all the bad things that have happened to him -and how he wishes that he would find something good- he's listing all the great things and just stating that the journey continues... |
