| Daughter – Landfill Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I'm going to go against most of the interpretations here, because I really don't see this as a song about a long, failed relationship. These two people haven't known each other for very long-- the chemistry between them is electric. Maybe he is in a relationship and stringing her on on the side, or maybe he just isn't willing to commit, but either way, they're not together and they never were. They hooked up, spent time together, she was the almost-girlfriend but never quite made it that far. | |
| The Decemberists – This Is Why We Fight Lyrics | 11 years ago |

This song doesn't have to be political. In fact, those of you interpreting this song as being about war and government are taking it far too literally. Few songs can be taken for face value. The war parallels are metaphors for a broad spectrum of things. The "this" in the title is: for love, for freedom, for that job no one thought we could qualify for, for our children to live better lives than we did... we fight for better things in life. "When we die, we will die with our arms unbound": we fight through the rough parts of life and because of the battles, we are no longer tied up by the things that were once holding us back. If you think of the song this way it becomes much more powerful and emotional. |
