Dustin is such a profound writer he wouldn't just write a song with the sole purpose of communicating to people how we take air for granted. This is clearly a song about how God (or someone who loves you if you want to take Christianity out of the equation) gives us everything, yet people curse him and blame him for our problems. True fans of Dustin's writing know he has the adept ability to articulate his beliefs using parables and just the purest of poetry. That's the beauty of Dustin's lyrics, it has so many different ways to be interpreted. |

Personally, I think this song is using war as more spiritual warfare rather than actual war. M. Shadows is singing about how he buys into the lies of the enemy rather than follow a straightened path, and he recognizes this battle in his mind. He also uses a couple of biblical references to make this point. He is basically declaring war on his worst enemy, himself. |
