I think he's talking about having a moment of clarity. A moment when you seem to have figured everything out only for it to slip away again into confusion, but thats in the context of what I think may be an affair. "Well, your hair fell on me like I dreamt that it would when I dreamt your hair was long" Maybe too literal, but I see this as him getting the girl that he wanted. He met her when she had short hair. He dreamed about how her hair would feel when it was longer. Now it is. And now he is with her. "Through the linens a moment of clearness shown through In a minute the clearness was gone" He's in bed with her. He's happy. The world is right. This is what life is all about. But those overwhelming feelings overshadow reality. "When to know what I should for my heart to rest doesn't meet with the actions I make" He may be cheating on someone and thinks that his new love is the right thing for him to do. Maybe not. Either way, he knows what is right and what is good for him (or at least what is expected of him), but chooses not do that. "I will seek the approval of no one but you In love for the changes I take" Not really sure here. I think he's saying I don't care what other people think. Just the person he is in love with. "The first time we fell for it we blamed it on youth And now we get hell for it and blame it on truth" When you are young you can fall in love easily and often. When you get older you're not supposed to fall in love with people like you do when you are young, especially when you are with someone else already. So if you do, you get hell from people because they think it is wrong. But he blames it on truth...these are the facts. I fell in love and that's all that matters. |

There is no indication that this song has anything to do with God. I think there are some details in this song that are pretty tough to decipher without hearing from the man that wrote it. But I think simply it means you have to find your own hope and happiness. And that can only be done alone. As for the details, obviously someone has left him or he has left someone and he's depressed about it. He's come to terms with it and recognizes that it's over, but it still hurts. He still thinks about her and doesn't like the thought of her finding someone else. |
