I don’t think it is actually about brother/sister love. The guy talks to “you”. Switching from “I had a brother” to “for you” doesn’t really make sense if he’s talking TO the brother. He supposedly “learns” that he has a brother and sister, and knows nothing of their lives or problems, and can’t do anything about it, suggesting they haven’t known each other for long. He doesn’t even know his sister has a baby, for crying out loud. Apparently when he found out he had a sister, he “knew exactly what to do”. It’s funny, because he has no idea in hell how to react to the information. He has to base his reaction off of television shows. Obviously, the position he found himself in was pretty astounding. Finding out you have a brother or sister after years of being an only child (or even with a couple siblings already) would be pretty shocking. But ‘what could [he] do?” He refers to his brother’s mother as “his mother”, implying he has no relationship/connection to her (even though we know ‘blood’ is important to him). He essentially says he can’t do anything about this information, as if he’s just learning it now and there’s nothing to be done. It feels like he’s pointing out possible flaws in his father (what had his brother’s mother been through? Why does his sister have a baby, how old is she, is the father around?) and saying ‘you told me about this crap, and what can I do but continue to love you’. “What could I do? You got it wrong, but I love you.” (With an implied ‘still’ in there at the end.) Plus some of his words to describe “you” at the end have double meanings. “You’re kind of sad” – pathetic or melancholic? “Maybe you’re broke” – a broken person or extremely poor? “You’re kind of soft in the middle” – secretly a pushover or pudgy? Calls him rough a lot, a sort of gruff man quality. “I don’t see you”. ^Not to mention all of those could be applied to an old, mediocre father figure. You can just imagine him, rough with stubble, smoker, drinker, kids with multiple women, no money, no wife, beer belly… And “it’s stupid” to love him. Based on the main repetition, the person he’s talking to is rough, but they get along, and he loves them. So I basically think it’s about a guy referring to the siblings he never knew he had from his father’s past, and saying that despite his dad’s BS he still loves him.
