| For me? This song is about my daughter. She is brilliant, strong and talented but life has been tough for both of us. The birds of prey are not just people who hurt you who you thought you could trust, but they are adolescence and heartbreak, and learning from mistakes. I hope for her to be the black crow who flies straight by, but I know that will not always be the way things work. Because she sings and writes poetry, I relate to the line, "find the song in you, no one's heard", and I believe that if she continues to do these things she will discover herself and become a stronger person. Finally, I think the window panes and sheets of glass are a reminder to her, we are never completely safe, we must be careful, no matter how fast you fly, or how much I love you - I cannot protect you from everything. I hope I have given her the freedom and the encouragement and everything she needs to become a good healthy person. Someday however, there may be something that I cannot teach her, because no matter how good a mother I am, her life is hers... that will be my saddest song. | |
