Unwound – Lifetime Achievement Award Lyrics 2 years ago
No comments? Oh my. A lot of their less listened to ones are so taken for granted.\nThe riff is so good and catchy that i have had this on repeat for 4 times now. I know this comment is too late and i am sort of a new listener but i find unwound the most brilliant, sophisticated, hardworking underground band in the 90\'s\nAbout this song, the meaning is kinda obvious. You always are praised after you are six feet under. Although the ironic twist is Ramsey passed a while ago. And nobody noticed. Its sad. I am already crying with unwound. I would kill to have seen them play. Thanks for the good music and thanks for not becoming sellouts and staying true to your art. It\'s appreciated and has personally inspired me.

i think the lyrics are generally wrong at times depending on how you sing/read them. i used to think the last part was this:
"everything is open
leaking of life"

Swans – Killing for Company Lyrics 7 years ago
There's a part missing in the lyrics:
"I know we'll live again
Though it's just a feeling
I know we'll never end
Like there was no beginning
I know it's cold tonight
I'll kiss your velvet skin
I know we'll never end
I'll keep you company"
.

although people here are saying it was inspired by a serial killer, it still gives me another vision, for me this song might be about someone lost who'd do absolutely anything (sometimes very very dangerous stuff) just to have company, this is why i relate to it on the highest level, i was and am the same; when i moved into a bigger city, the capital of Iran. i felt the most isolated amongst the mass of the crowds. i wanted every human being to be mine. for me to be able to manipulate them the way i wanted because i needed company. now i've got too many friends and acquaintances all around the city. im used to walking miles from leaving a friend and joining another almost every day so i wouldnt have to taste my ever growling loneliness and emptiness. falsely accusing the others with the same title, wanting to give everyone the love nobody has given me has left me with an even deeper empty black hole inside my heart and mind...

Radiohead – The Amazing Sounds of Orgy Lyrics 8 years ago
Also if nobody has seen this tv show, its called "Mr Robot" and its where a disordered (a Tyler Durden type) hacker is trying to save the people by making all banks collapse. It so beautiful fits (because he has developed a character for himself who is his father and leads his hacker group, and its like fight club in a bigger perspective all over again

Radiohead – Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors Lyrics 8 years ago
Also to make this even more complicated (and if nobody has said this before) Man Ray has a series of abstract/geometrical paintings called "Revolving Doors"... Add this to the weirdness of the whole "door" thing and also keep in mind the new video to "Day Dreaming". There are all kinds of doors shown there... This is why i love RH. They are like never ending puzzles, everything is tied together, put there flr a reason beyond its own meaning, everything connects and its just so enjoyable to make those connections...

Thom Yorke – Harrowdown Hill Lyrics 8 years ago
Aside from the obvious reference to the story behind Kelly's death i want to add that this song reminds me so much of V For Vendetta, specially this part:
"But I'm coming home, I'm coming home
To make it all right
So dry your eyes

We think the same things at the same time
We just can't do anything about it
We think the same things at the same time
There are too many of us so you can't
There are too many of us so you can't count!"

Reminds me of the ending scenes of the film, in which V's death, as though meaningful to the girl, is meaningless to the rest of the world because they don't know about him, he is everyone, he has no substance, no clear lines surrounding his body. Anyways he dies but promises merely of a better day. And then the government falls in the hands of thousands dressing like him and watching the parliament go kaboom!
I think there are similarities in Kelly's aim and V's, its not that they both wanted to blow up something, its that they were both trying to inform the public of the dirty games that their sole protector, their government plays. They were both out there trying to save the world from being totally diminished by fascist dictatorships.

Radiohead – House of Cards Lyrics 8 years ago
There might be nothing in common but please compare this song and the lyrics in total with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and there are things that might come out
Hence the "Denial" part in both (probably the exact number of repetations). But that is stupid and I'm sorry if it seems stupid to you

Anyways i love the song so much

Radiohead – Videotape Lyrics 8 years ago
To me it depicts a fragment of the life of a person who is madly in love and at the same time thinks that he is on the edge, and is going to die,(whether this is a metaphorical kind of dying, the one you might call 'death in life' or an actual real death, so it could be suicide.) anyways this person has recorded what might be his last words on a videotape and is trying to get this to the person he loves before its too late
As he is pursuing this aim he is also followed by death at his tail
Finally he reaches that person but death gets ahold of him before he gives the videotape to the person
But he manages to say that;
"No matter what happens now
You shouldn't be afraid
Because I know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen"
.
Radiohead always manages to make the most visual songs, especially the ones in this album are ones that you can picture right from the start, like a movie or a memory flashing by...

Radiohead – Inside My Head Lyrics 8 years ago
I was going to say that this song could also, apart from being about a voice inside to bring him down, be about their fans. But then i realized this is like one of their earliest songs so it couldnt be about fans cause they didnt have much then.
But if you look at it, to me it kind of represents someone who is famous and has given all to be. But now that he is, everyone's expectations of him is bringing him down. His fingers are bleeding from playing and practicing so much, he is hearing the voices in his head saying he still could give more, although he barely can. And he cannot run away because he likes it. Its his drug (everyone knows that drugs have side effects but the addicts cant quit them easily cause they like the feeling it gives them) After all its all that he ever could so. So despite the voice driving him crazy he continues his life like this.

" You are Radio Salvation. You are Radio Death. Slavery to the Beat - Slavery to the Pleasure. Slavery to your ego. Anyone can play guitar w/no emotion. Robot Robot Robot. "
-Richey James in his 'Nostalgic Pushead' manifesto (the lines for the chorus were taken from there)
.
Also do u think that the part "slavery to the beat" has anything to do with the other meanings of beat, and the beat generation? For me it seems like that (as Nicky said on an interview they were reading too much Burroughs when writing GT!)

Joy Division – Colony Lyrics 9 years ago
once you step in a relationship with no visible and stable future you get all flooded with things, you are at family dinner with your wife and everyone is doing something while you, always unstable for this kind of crowded environment just stand there, like the time has stopped for you and not others, deep down you know that you are cold and alone still and will be for much of the rest of your life because of your adversity, its like you are pinned to the ground... And then when your wife taps on your shoulder you realize what have you been doing, that creep affliction of yours never gets contagious so you apologize and it just starts all over again.
I think it happened to Ian quite a lot, given to his condition as an epileptic and his depression (the amplified feelings) and his unstable relationship with both the band and his wife, i think he would just stand there stare at people for a while and with that he would have been the one on the outside of his dark dome, looking in.
I think it hints in various of things Ian was particularly going through at the time,family/relationships/politics etc...
.
P.s. I also think it is "the sound of broken BONES" (not homes)

Just an idea!

Manic Street Preachers – Never Want Again Lyrics 9 years ago
So here is a theory:
We are a band (manics) and we will do everything together and never leave the side of any member but Richey is still feeling distant (could be any band member tho,i wrote Richey cuz it sounds like it could be him) and there are some of our obsessive fans who (for example started cult if Richey) stated that they want to go through basically everything that the band goes through
And here Richey or whomever is saying that we are going through hell ourselves we don't need you to overheat it and if you really want that (i.e. if you really want to be me ) you can come to hell with us and then you will see what we are going through is no joke and you will never (as stated) "want (to do this) again"
Maybe this is a cover idk but it pretty feels like it should be interpreted this way, though everyones opinions are sacred and unique!

Joy Division – Candidate Lyrics 9 years ago
Its like a psycho brainwashing government telling people that ive worked so hard to take your minds and thoughts away from you and have them for myself and now you try to riot and revolt against me? Thats not fair all i was doing was to do your job (which is thinking) and now you treat me like this?
It obviously can happen in relationships with people (not just intimate ones, regular ones too) when someones driven by the other
But i think its more about tricking people into how good is for them to not have a free thought .

Manic Street Preachers – Mausoleum Lyrics 9 years ago
I have thought about the last line for quite some time and i think i pretty much understand it (in my way anyways) but i will try to explain as much as i can

So i think winter in the last line can be a metaphor of a real tragic winter scene (wether in the concentration camps or just in reality) and the fact that cold can kill, cold inside also can kill
Anyways back to the line i think the term "youth's lamb" means the innocent part of everybody's youth, the part that we all hate to refer to because its long gone and the filthiness of the world has gotten in our throats also! So i think it means that "The World" (aka the brutal, dirty hopeless place filled with broken dreams) is stabbing the innocence with a lance (lambs grow just to get beheaded by their assumed friends) just like winter sucked the life out of its victims and finally killing the person who held most dearly to his possessions wether they were their life through war or simply their innocence
.
Sorry if this means nothing but thats how i interpret that line.

Placebo – Protege Moi Lyrics 9 years ago
Always someone has to protect us from what we want
People are not the same but the wishes they make could kill us all
Some want to kill, others or themselves...
Some have a thirst for power, they are willing to do whatever it takes to get it no matter what...
Some want something destructive like alcohol and drug addiction, whores, divine love...
But someone should get in the way and stop us all because were gonna be the cause of our own extinction one day

Does anyone else see how intense and heavy this song is?! Damn the whole band were absolutely great in creating the disturbing reality of Ellis' book, i mean listen to this song and try to picture the scenes, either from the movie or book and you will see how deep the the song and especially the lyrics are, Richey was a freaking god for himself, i admire him

Manic Street Preachers – Too Cold Here Lyrics 9 years ago
This is one of my absolute favorite songs ever (if not the only) its just so freaking beautiful poetry that i can never describe, but yet,the strange thing is i can understand (sub/unconsciously) the whole song,i cant translate it sort of for u but i definitely understand every word of it,and i relate to the most of the parts except 10 years of bleeding inside (mine might be like 4 years, but i think richey was 24 at the time, which leaves out 14 as the age that everything changed because he went to the comprehensive school and all that) and whiskey part, thanks god im not a drinker yet
But the rest really makes me ,idk feel bad and good at the same time, because its just very saddening to know to what degree things had gone bad for him [never share sadness, mine a man prays (i think it actually is "bleeds") painless]
That is i guess why no one got how bad things were until well... Im sorry to look so deep but the song itself represents a deep meaning to whatever misery in life.
Its too cold here to richey, im sorry.

"They want a piece of your skin" reminds me of kurt cobain saying that this generation of youth are very brutual indeed, moshing around and when he stage dived, they stuck their hands on him as if they wanted a piece of him, maybe never a reference to that but yet,i think its about youth culture and losing your virginity to the society (your soul's)

No one knows the hell where innocence dies

Love these lines, cery poetic, amazing amazing. This song is one of the best ever made about insomnia
My dad has insomnia and therefore there is a chance that i have it too

But honestly, who doesnt go to bed and accidentally wind up thinking about everything they had done wrong and getting anxious about their tomorrow and whether its gonna be as shitty as today or...?

Manic Street Preachers – Love's Sweet Exile Lyrics 9 years ago
To @manic4manics
The first idea seems more ideal because we are talking about Richey here, i wouldnt take him as a very sexual person, as I've read he didnt lose his virginity up until he was 21,beyond that its just pretty fiction you know, i know he had better things to do than to hire prostitutes but yet thats only my opinion

Well the song is so sweet! And i adore the music video, i know my heart desires Richey and Nicky being couples, i just love how they look at eachother, filled with love!
I think the song could be about anything that includes Alienation and Despair as a big factor... Because its obvious lol

Manic Street Preachers – Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky Lyrics 9 years ago
Such an amazing song
I want to have thom yorke sing it i dont know why i think it will fit his voice perfectly
No to mention that JDB 's voice is incredible
I love the acoustic (unplugged version so much too)
I live in iran, and once we went to this zoo, and i basically went out of there crying, you have be there to know what im talking about, it was horrible, all these poor animals, they waited like crazy for a little voice of humans to crawl to the front of cage, asking for help or food? I never know
They were just skin and bones, the lions had just dried bone sticks to eat and they all looked depressed, it was so hot there that it burned their skin and it was crazy dirty
As this song is ABOUT being trapped inside a cage, whether its an animal or a human being,no one should go through that horrible experience and i can see how beautifully Richey pictured it all in a short lyric
I love this song.

Radiohead – Prove Yourself Lyrics 10 years ago
I think its not really about suicide or something i think he (whoever the charachter is) is telling other people (maybe parents or elders) that he had put so much afford but nothing really happened (im better off dead) means i rather be dead than not accomplish anything and has people going on reminding him that he has to prove himself (thats why i think phil and ed sing along to it,wants to create a mass of sounds from different people saying "prove yourself" like they are expecting him to do something that remarkable that is concisered 'proving self' to the world, it could also be about the music industry that you die for your fans but they still expect you to be someone you are not!! I hope this is correct
