I know I will be called a fag for saying this as I am a 15 year old guy but this is one of the most sad yet beautiful and even scary songs I've ever heard. I have over 4,000 songs (no rap or modern pop, mind you) but this one has haunted me the most ever since I first heard it when I was 8 years old. I know that when I get old like the narrator of this song, I will think the exact same thing he is saying whether about my wife, girlfriend or even my first crush. I know there are more things in life than my teen mind can discover, let alone understand and I am trying to learn more and more things so I am not grieving how stupid I was in my teen years when I am older. Someday, old, dying and decrepped in a wheelchair, I will look back and say "wow!, the hills really were higher!". Beautiful song and vastly unknown for its importance!. |

I think this song is aimed at authorities. Whether its the government, the cops, our parents or teachers....etc...hence the title " up in the sky". The "I can feel you, can you feel me?" Lyric is like saying to the authorities "back the fuck off and let me live my own life!", your invading my business!". Any teenager can relate to this song in a big way. LOVE IT!!!!! |

The ultimate atheist's song. I picture the whole thing as a letter to Jesus and I find it actually quite hilarious. This song may also be about a girl ian brown used to date and he now has grown a hatred toward her. But I like to picture it as a letter to Jesus as then I can connect with it especially "your tongue, it's far too long, I don't like the way it slips and slurs upon my every word " which means he thinks Jesus restricts his speech and basically his life way too much and I couldn't agree more on that point. I never got Christianity, why would you let what a totally narccististic person(s) (Jesus/god) restrict your life (" I am the ressurection, I am the life") I can't tell you how arrogant and frankly stupid that sounds !!. |

Although I can connect with the meaning of this song very deeply it has never been one of my favorites off this album but its a great tune nonetheless. It is about like another person said commiting suicide (or wanting to) over love whether its a divorce, death of a loved one, or a hard rejection. |

I always used to overlook this song as I would almost never listen to it because I thought the material on disintegration after fascination street was plain blah. But one day I decided to listen to this song and since then it has became my favorite song on the album. As for the meaning of the song I think its about being heartbroken by love and praying for a way to move on but you simply just cannot do it, the lyrics blend in perfectly with the music in this song. I strongly urge anyone, even if they hate this song with a passion to give it another listen, believe me it will sink into you. |

I have a very personal experience with this song. I think this song is about a man just about to commit suicide and reflecting on his life and everything that is and was in it. I think in the end of the song he is commiting suicide with his last words being "there's nothing to fear, nothing to doubt". The story is I was suicidal earlier this year over a girl (won't explain what happened exactly). and one night lying in bed drowning in self misery and suicidal thoughts with my phone on shuffle songs this song came on. And the lyrics and their meaning affected me deeply instantly. I then in this song went off into a kind of suicidal lucid dream where I shot and killed myself as this song is about looking back on life once more. I call this song "the soundtrack of my death" but it also had a positive effect on me in that the lyrics also made me look at my life current and past events and made me decide it wasn't worth it. Basically this song saved my life, thank you Radiohead , you are a bunch of life savers |
