Honestly, I feel I can relate to the lyrics very much. I see that most of these interpretations are about moving on from something. That seems to be the big picture of these lyrics. I am (barely) thirteen. My knowledge of the world is very small. I'm not all that good at interpreting songs. However, with my experiences that I have had (they're few, but they're there) I feel that the speaker is talking about wanting to start their own life, to start doing the things that they have always wanted to. The line "I've got my heart set on anywhere but here" could be a literal "I don't want to be living in this location. I don't know where, but I hate this town". The pre-chorus, "Stop and stare/I think I'm moving but I go nowhere/Yeah, I know that everyone gets scared/But I've become what I can't be" could be the speaker trying to get an education/knowledge/whatever they need to move forward. They're getting it, but they don't seem to be making any progress. They're getting scared, missing their family, wanting to go back home, but they keep thinking, "I've gotten this far, I can do it". And the lines, "You start to wonder why you're here not there/And you'd give anything to get what's fair" might be the speaker talking about how they are doing everything they can, but it all seems to be at a standstill despite the work they're putting into their dreams, and how it isn't fair. |

| The Secret Sisters – Tomorrow Will Be Kinder Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| The speaker in this song is perhaps talking about one of the many things they have grieved over ("It's true, I've seen it before"). They know things will get better and that they'll move on ("Tomorrow will be kinder") and they can't wait for that time. | |
| The Civil Wars – Barton Hollow Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| If you watch the music video, it shows someone digging into the ground with a shovel. And with the lyrics of the music, it’s possible that those spots are graves. So maybe they’re digging in graves, looking for belongings such as clothes and such because they can’t afford to buy this stuff? So, he would hypothetically be “a dead man walking”, because he is wearing and keeping the belongings of a dead man. | |
