Men at Work – Catch A Star Lyrics 8 months ago
Wow, I am amazed that this song has ZERO comments. I realize it is not one of Men At Work’s more famous songs, but it is always one I found fascinating. So, 5 years from now when someone else visits this page and sees only my comment, I want to know your opinions!

Is the “star” a famous person? I’ve sort of read it that way. “Knowing who you are”, “knowing you are near” make me think this is someone who he really likes, and has maybe even seen in person a time or two, but could never know in real life. Also “arrow though my heart” says he is in love with them, but “freeway though your heart” suggests to me that he has to watch and/or hear about all the other relationships she has in her life, OR it could just mean that he knows there are thousands of other men who feel the same way about her.

He is clearly a lonely person. Surrounded by so many cars in traffic, but feeling lonely like “Jupiter and Mars”. So instead of searching a meaningful relationship with someone, he dreams about a relationship which he knows is impossible. He doesn’t like himself much either - “Welcome to the late show - starring Null and Void”. This was always one of my favourite lines.

I hope someone else will comment sometime!

Styx – Come Sail Away Lyrics 4 years ago
@[Bopo8989:32785] Wow, 12 years ago you wrote this. Bet you will be surprised to have a reply after all these years! I agree with you, right up to the end of your post. I don’t think he has lost his mind at the end - I think he has managed to put that depression behind him, leave that life and live one without the depression. It would seem like a whole new world, a new planet so to speak, for him. I know it did for me when this happened!!! Unfortunately that world too came to an end, and I am back where I was before. But I am thankful for the 5 depression-free years of happiness that I had. If that is the end of my happy times, so be it. At least I had some. That is more than I ever expected before “I climbed aboard their starship.” (Well, climbed aboard HER starship at least .... lol) I hope this makes some sense - perhaps it is too personal, but that is what music is all about!

Sting – Fortress Around Your Heart Lyrics 6 years ago
I will try to keep this very simple and to the point. The man feels regret for how he treated his former lover. I do not believe he physically mistreated her, just emotionally. Some time later, after regretting this all that time, he tries to repair the damage he did to her emotionally, but the chasm was too deep and wide, no bridge could be built across it. I think he genuinely wants to apologize and make it better, but she is still too hurt to make this possible.

Honeymoon Suite – Love Changes Everything Lyrics 6 years ago
I just heard this song on the radio for the first time in a long time. I had to come on here to see what people were saying, because I do not understand the simile, "Like a fire, burning higher, you've got my heart on a string."

Can anyone explain this to me?? Perhaps not .... no one has ever commented on this some before, so I'll be shocked if I ever get a reply. Thanks for reading, if you did!

Prism – Spaceship Superstar Lyrics 7 years ago
Had to see what others had written about this song after I heard it for the first time in years earlier this week. As it turns out .... NOTHING!! lol Some of the most ridiculous lyrics of all time, no doubt about that. "Every night is a different flight to a different galaxy" .... Then all they mention are shows on Mercury, Venus, the moon and Mars ..... Don't think they know what a different galaxy means!! Hahaha and how is that solar-powered laser beam guitar working for you when you're on Mars? Not quite as much solar power there .... bet it's amazing on Mercury and Venus though! I don't know, it sure is a catchy tune, but just so ridiculous I can barely stand it!

Alanis Morissette – Still Lyrics 10 years ago
I have always thought that this song was mocking the concept of God. The previous posts seem to say otherwise, which is very interesting to me. I can see how people who have strong beliefs in God (clearly I am not one of them ......) would read these lyrics and see them as confirming that God loves us no matter what. To me, lyrics such as "I see you ignoring your children" and "I see you abusing the land" and even "I see you and your selective amnesia" as God being highly sarcastic - can he really forgive such behaviour so easily? I really don't think Alanis intended this to be a positive religious song, I think it was questioning how people can still believe that there is a God out there who could love us no matter what we do. I am completely willing to admit that I could be wrong about this - but when I pulled this song up on this site, I expected at least a couple of previous posts which agreed with my interpretation ..... am I completely alone in this view??
