| King Missile – (Why Are We) Trapped? Lyrics

I believe this song is about the futility of believing in a creator or an all-powerful God. Here, Hall takes the position of a captive, wishing to be freed from his prison and questioning why he is trapped. He pleads with his captor, saying he has do e everything he had been told, and how he wants to be left out, but his cries fall on deaf ears. On the religious perspective, the captor is the religious as a whole. They pray and cry out asking for the answers in life and follow their holy writings to the letter, but their God does nothing, so to beg and try to reason is futile. We are trapped in the Neverending cycle of life without a creator, or at least without a caring creator, to turn things around at the darkest and most uncertain times. |

| Social Distortion – Ball and Chain Lyrics

This is kind of a personal interpretation, as well as a memory. To me, the song is about addiction, and how it's near impossible to remove and holds you down, like a ball and chain. I had a friend at one point who managed to get himself hooked on heroin. I watched him go down a path he could not go back up on. I tried to get him all the help I could, but he kept getting worse, I couldn't even recognize him anymore and he just became more and more withdrawn, until one day I got the news he had overdosed and died. It just hit me so hard, and I remember that heading to his funeral, this song played on the radio, and I just broke down. Addiction is a scary thing. It will pull you down, and no matter how hard you may struggle, it will not get better on its own, you need the help of loved ones. If you or someone you know has an addiction, I ask you to please reach out, don't lose yourself or someone close to you. |

When I hear this song, I always think of being in an airplane all by myself in complete silence, looking to the ground below from above the clouds. There's something about Aphex Twin's ambient works that really leaves you to your own thoughts. |
