Before getting too deep into the symbolism, this song almost seems like the kind of song a father might write for his teenage daughter. Teenage years are tough times for everybody, socially and biologically. Because of societal pressures, teenage women tend to have problems with negative self image, as does the female character in the song. Parents, like the speaker, take to heart the pain their children have. Of course, this is just a theory... Lindemann is a storyteller, and this song is another great example of this. He tends to use very colorful language to describe very simple things which leads me to believe that the literal reference of Morgenstern is supposed to be the sun. By no means am I jaded enough to deny the metaphorical implications that it could also refer to Lucifer and/or Venus, but those implications are probably secondary. Also, I hate to be that guy, but I just had the though. What if the "she" in this song refers to a shadow. Just think about it, this song is just a devilishly whimsical personification of a shadow. |
