Silverstein always has a lot of symbolism in their songs (this song in particular indicates that he dies), so I'm going to try to take the literal meaning and seeif someone else can figure it out. "Followed painted lines along the way back to see you Fighting sleep and drifting in the rain, I couldn't get through" -----Painted lines most likely referring to roads, so he's driving to go see someone. He's really tired and drifting in and out of lanes. Crashes car. "I was thrown from my mind with no one there to catch me, to lead me back to life Had to leave it behind and send my other on her way" ------'Was thrown from his mind' meaning he died, no one could save him. Left everything behind because he died, something about a girl. "Will you break when you realize I'm gone Counting days until the season you move on I'm having doubts if you can still feel me at all Out here looking on while you're falling in love" ------Meaning: How will you react when you find out I'm dead? Will you sulk/be depressed, wondering if you will ever move on? I doubt you will remember me for long, because you feel in love with another. "I was thrown from my mind and you're not here to catch me to make it all feel right I've been trying to find a way to get back to you and say I'm sorry" -----Meaning: I died, and you can't bring me back and make it all okay. I've been trying to come back to you to say sorry, but I can't "When I found a way to calm down, a disguise of yourself without me Your heart was so strong, I thought you moved on But you can't carry on without me" -----Meaning: I was angry but I came back, you seemed fine with me being gone. You were very strong, I thought you had moved on. But you're still broken without me there. "I was thrown from my mind and now I'm here to beg you To move on with your life You can leave me behind I am the voice in your head that tells you it's alright" ------Meaning:I died (and now I can see you really miss me), please move on. I won't be upset if you move on. "I was thrown from my mind with no one there to catch me To lead me back to life Had to leave it behind and I have to accept it The way it all has to be, has to be, has to be now The way it all has to be, has to be, has to be The way it all has to be" -----Meaning: I died, couldn't be saved. Left everyone behind, and that's just how it is. |

One of the best off this album! "When the curtain falls it rolls, unwraps, reminds me the person that I am. I'm still afraid, ashamed, of what's behind me, but you gave me the strength to stand." -----While Jeremy is out there being a rock star, he realizes he's still afraid of his past. Unknown individual is there for him and helps him out. "sha sha shake it off go get the things you want. I'll bottle the shame ( bottle the shame ). Just sha sha shake it off, and no one will ever know ( won't know )." -----Go do what you want to do, regret it and drink to it later. (way to deal with problems and keep it secret) "I'm a slave to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid I'm afraid of what they've said. Im a slave." -----Pretty straightforward. Possibly thinks he's going crazy kind of thing. "Sometimes when no ones left to listen ill sit and argue w myself. Say all the things I wish to tell you, without hurting someone else." -----When I'm alone I talk to myself, making imaginary conversations and constructing what I think your response would be. But this way, my words won't hurt you. "I'm a slave to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid I'm afraid of what they've said. Im a slave to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid they'll walk with me until my end." -----Going crazy, and that will never go away. "Hey you, whend ya get so cold? Hey you, just do what you're told, do what you're told. Hey you, you're gonna be a star. As long as you'll let us we'll make you the person that you aren't." -----This part of the song is interesting, because reflects on pressures people put on each other, especially famous people like Jeremy. I think it's reflecting on before he was famous and after he became famous (goes from 'do what you're told' to 'you're going to be a star'). And then they try to change him into someone he's not (could be relating to Victory Records) Tell me what you think of my interpretation :) |

"Have faith in me 'Cause there are things that I've seen I don't believe So cling to what you know and never let go You should know things aren't always what they seem" -----I think he's talking to a girl and he has seen some crazy/messed up stuff in the world and is telling her to stick to her beliefs and such. The last line seems like a personal thing between the girl and him. "I said I'd never let you go, and I never did I said I'd never let you fall and I always meant it If you didn't have this chance then I never did You'll always find me right there, again" -----Pretty straightforward 'I will always be there for you' type of thing. 2nd line possibly meaning that he did let something bad happen to her, but he never meant to hurt her. 3rd line, I'm not really sure, could be a lot of different things. 4th line, still will always be there for her. "I'm going crazy 'Cause there are things in the streets I don't believe So we'll pretend it's alright and stay in for the night What a world I'll keep you safe here with me" -----Again, world is crazy and messed up. 3rd line down saying I'll protect you from it, let's just be together. "They've got me on the outside, looking in But I can't see at all With the weight of the world on my shoulders, They just wanna see me fall" ------The world is against me, and there is a lot of pressure on me. They're waiting to see me fail. My basic interpretation: Telling a girl to stay with him even though his life is crazy and the world is messed up. |

The general meaning of the song is pretty straightforward (Guy is away, guy likes girl, girl likes guy, girl gets bored and moves on). I think what makes this song emotional is that he is trying to make it in the music industry for her'Cause ("I can't come back home 'til they're singin'/La, la la la, la la la"), and in the end after he loses her he finally makes it in the music industry ("La, la la la, la la la Now everybody's singin'"), but he is unhappy and loses the girl he loves. |
