This song is about walking away from a lover for the simple reason that you no longer love them, though they still love you, making it tough, because you don't want to hurt them.
This is a B-side from Head in the Door, which is a strange choice because it may be the best song on the album. It's also a great companion to "In Between Days", which I interpret as being about leaving someone one day, then regretting it later. |

To me, this song is a negative commentary on Jesse's celebrity status because of his music, especially in regards to touring. Like he's reduced to something below human, and just an act that's there for your amusement.
Hopefully my interpretation is wrong, because Brand New kicks ass live. |

It comes off an album called "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside of Me" and the song speaks of saints and sinners. Of course people are going to relate it to religion. |

"Degaussing is the process of decreasing or eliminating a remnant magnetic field"
My interpretation of this song is that its about letting go of the things that make you who you are and accepting the life prescribed to you by others, like the elimination of a magnet's magnetic field. "Goodbye to sleep/love" two enjoyable things that get in the way of productive society. "Take apart your head... and the flock it has bred", take away the original thoughts you have created. "Some saint got the job of writing down my sins"- the actions you've performed, which are deemed unpure by others.
Kick ass song, my favorite on the album. The lyrics are pretty vague, and this is just my interpretation. Love reading the others. |
