Not sure if anyone here knows this, but a lot of the songs from this album were based off the movie "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind". This whole song basically portrays what Joel (Jim Carey) is going through in the movie. "lost in a haunting thought spinning me around once more" -You see Joel stuck in his head as the technicians are erasing his memories. He's being "spun around" the thoughts of Clementine, the woman he's trying to forget. "i wake just to feel the way as the daylight comes around i turn with my eyes on the back door" -At the beginning of the movie, you see Joel awake in his bed, the day after the memory wipe. When he wakes, he no longer remembers Clementine but he says that he feels "off". He ends up skipping work and takes a train to Montauk, the place where he first met Clementine. It's the "backdoor" his eyes are on, even if he didn't quite know it. "your face is light and cocaine white one message beating through" -Throughout the scenes where Joel's memories are being erased, you see Clementine. The screen becomes hazy and white as if she's being wiped away. Even though, there's always one message he keeps telling himself: Don't let the memories of her slip away. "smoke's filled the air and i'm struggling to breathe let them be calm so i finally can sleep everything you intended to say don't go back on your words you always said you'd tell me first" -Again, the "smokes filled the air..." lyric is Joel in his memories watching her be wiped from his mind. He begins to panic as he tries to save the memories of Clementine, to no avail. He wants his memories to be calmed so he can finally sleep without thinking of her. She had the memory wipe procedure done before him, so he's upset throughout the movie about that fact. "verse after endless verse i can't escape the echoed words" -The "verses" are his memories that he keeps going through. The echoed words are the voices of the technicians that are doing the memory wipe procedure. He can hear them in the real world as he's stuck in his own memories. "i long to find a cure for the feeling i find in these chords i smile as it burns" -The "cure" is the procedure he's having done to wipe her from his memories. The "burn" is (from my perspective) the procedure which is basically a controlled burning of his memories. "i've been erased from the picture excuse, oh no anything goes excuses, you know it doesn't work excuse, oh no anything goes excuses don't work excuse me this will calls out desperate excuse me this will calls out desperate" -As I stated, Clementine had the procedure done before Joel did. This is him stating that if she can do it, so can he. "Anything Goes"... At this point he was desperate to get even and to forget she ever existed in his life. Well, that's my take on it. I know I'm many, many years late, but this is still one of my favorite albums and songs from my teen years. I was lucky enough to make it to a show for the 10 year anniversary tour they did last fall. Hope you all enjoy! |

| Chiodos – I Am Everything That's Normal Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This is the bands song showing that they're back. Mostly, it's Craig's point of view telling the fans that he is different now and ready to be unstoppable. He's been saying it at the shows during The Devil's Dance Tour: Tell your friends Chiodos is back. | |

| Pretty obvious. The writer is hurt by some girl that's broken his heart and has ruined what he sees as love. | |
| Chiodos – We're Talking About Practice Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I feel like this song is about a "talent agent" seducing someone like an actress in to the big screen business. He's in search of that one girl who is going to get to everyone's heart and soul. He isn't just searching for a girl to put on the big screen though, he's also looking to have her to himself. That's what I got out of this one. | |
