This song (in my opinion) talks about Heavy Metal and it's power through the world. The "Phantom Lord" may refer as the Heavy Metal itself as an entity. 'Sound is ripping through your ears, the deafening sound of metal nears'. This is obvious, its talking about the brutality and power of Heavy Metal music. 'Your bodies waiting for his whips, you taste the leather on your lips' -This may be a reference to Whiplash, meaning how Heavy Metal whiplashes you with the music, and how you can taste 'the leather' (the sound) on your lips. 'Hear the cry of war louder than before' -The heavy metal sounds even louder than before, its displaying it's power. 'With his sword in hand to control the land' -The Heavy Metal (or the Phantom Lord) is taking over the world. 'Crushing metal strikes on this frightening night' -The Heavy Metal is playing tonight. 'Fall onto your knees for the Phantom Lord' -Bow down to Heavy Metal. 'Victims falling under chains you hear them cry death pains' -This may have two meanings, either the Phantom Lord (Heavy Metal) crushes everyone who doesn't follow Heavy Metal, or the fans cry 'death pains' which may refer to the screams of euphoria of Metal fans in a concert. 'The fists of terror breakibg through and now there's nothing you can do.' -This may refer to a moshpit, once you're caught in the euphoria and energy of a moshpit in a metal concert, there's nothing you can do, you go 'til the end. (CHORUS) 'The leather armies have prevailed, the Phantom Lord has never failed' -The "leather armies" refers to us, the Metal fans, and how despite the criticism and infame Heav Metal has, we still stand strong, and never leave it. "The Phantom Lord has never failed" means Heavy Metal still stands strong; forever.
