Owing to the music video and its time of release, I believe this song is about the music from the past coming back because of Nirvana's supposed 'end' to the glam-metal of the late '80s. Some lines are about how she never 'sold out' to that genre of music: "Thin skin gets thick, it happens quick", whilst others are about the glam-metal lifestyle: "I never strayed from a course that somebody else laid". "Your time ain't long you don't belong," is taunting those that play that type of music, and the backlash is the past - although the line: "So it's goodbye to the past" is about the past of the glam-metal hay-day. Unfortunately, most artists are very vague, and so the song could be about anything from my interpretation to sex to even (unlikely) hating Nirvana and telling them to stop bringing back the old, edgy rock music. |
