| This has got to be a song that I listen to on repeat over and over. I seriously want certain people to listen to it and realize they are literally this song. On the other hand, I think this song was written because he is calling himself out, he's taking a passive aggressive (very judgmental) view of himself and what others say. This song is almost the EXACT opposite of 'Guts' ( which is more enabling, them finally figuring out they can say what they want however they want and it doesn't matter). Parts of the song are pointing out the flaws of haters like the lines 'You're not a hero, you're a liar You're not a savior, you're a vampire Sucking the life out of all the friends you've ever known You're just a train wreck, not a winner Up on your soap box preaching down to the sinners The saints without a cause, we're not listening, we're not listening' its a passive aggressive jab at haters saying you can say what you want but me and my fans? we aren't listening! By the end when the 'You' has changed to 'I' it means he's letting them get to him he's letting the comments creep in like weeds, all those times they were called sell-outs, told they suck you can only take so much hate. This song was hard to interpret because I would never want to realize that Alex, Jack, Zack, or Rian has been hurt by people who have been hating. Hopefully they stay strong no matter what, love these guys so much | |

| I read an interview with Alex and Jack they talked about this song. They both said (in one way or another) that the song was them finding out that it was there music and they could make it how ever they wanted. Basically it's about them realizing they don't have to please anyone and they can say what the want. The line "LET ME GO DOWN ALONE" (I think) refers to them writing songs/lyrics that could be considered controversial and they'll take the fall for it, they want the credit. Good or bad. | |

If any one cares I think I'll be interpreting this song in TWO(2) ways from a JALEX standpoint and from a 'I wish we could be together but we can't because you don't know me' standpoint. Alright, not even gonna lie first few times I heard this song I drove myself crazy imagining having Jack or Alex or Zack or Rian as a boyfriend. Finally my mind settled on Jack because if we had to bring the whole 'JALEX' ship into this I would hope from the depth of my heart Alex wrote it about Jack. Let's begin: I wish you could see your face right now 'Cause you're grinning like a fool -We all know that jack has an amazing smile and why wouldn't Alex notice it! (c'mon that's a given) And we're sitting on your kitchen floor On a Tuesday afternoon -I think this alludes to when the band first began, they were still quite young. They could have been sitting in Jacks kitchen writing lyrics and just having fun. Alex probably developed feelings for jack when they were quite young. It doesn't matter when we get back To doing what we do -Alex doesn't care when the band goes back to touring or getting out a new album because he wants to spend alone time with Jack so he can just relax without the other guys. 'Cause right now could last forever Just as long as I'm with you - Being with him is perfect and nothing could ruin it when they are together You're just a daydream away I wouldn't know what to say if I had you -Alex thinks that having a relationship with Jack would hurt a lot of people (including himself) and Jack probably really wants this relationship with him but doesn't know what Alex is doing and why he isn't going for it like Jack wants, Alex wouldn't know what to say if he had Jack because he would have to explain to his girlfriend and the fans who don't support Jalex. And I'll keep you a daydream away Just watch from a safe place So I never have to lose -He's keeping himself a safe distance from Jack so no one will get hurt, he thinks if they did get together they would end quite quickly and ruin their friendship and he doesn't want to lose something so special to him. We would go out on the weekend To escape our busy lives -Jack and Alex party a lot (because a party isn't a party all time low crashes it:) And we'd laugh at all the douche bag guys Chasing down their desperate wives -Jack and Alex probably laugh at how couples function, secretly they want to have that relationship with each other they want the dates and the love that everyone shares but they just laugh because they don't want the other to know that is what they want. I would drink a little too much You'd offer me a ride -I guarantee this has happened although I doubt either of them was driving. And I would offer you a t-shirt And you would stay another night -Jack parties to hard loses some clothes, Alex gave him some it he stayed the night it held some significance such as: Alex decided he didn't want jack to sleep over anymore because it was getting harder and harder but he let him and it turned out for both of them. We never stood a chance out there Shooting love in real time So we'll take it over ice tonight With a little salt And a little lime -Alex doesn't think they could really be together, although they both want to be with each other so they drink and joke it all off so no one can see there real feelings and how scared they both are. *Side note I don't think they are gay! I do however think that they were meant for each other seeing how well they get along, so it's not a gender thing it's just for each other. The other standpoint: I wish you could see your face right now 'Cause you're grinning like a fool -I think this alludes to the girl being a childhood friend or someone from his teenage years. And we're sitting on your kitchen floor On a Tuesday afternoon -He's remembering or dreaming about being with this girl again, like they were when they were younger. You're just a daydream away I wouldn't know what to say if I had you -He wants her but he can't have her possibly because of her being in another realitonship and if he did have her he wouldn't know what to say because he's loved her for so long he wouldn't want to hurt her scare her away, he also wouldn't know what to say to his fans, Jack or the rest of the band. And I'll keep you a daydream away Just watch from a safe place So I never have to lose - he thinks dating her would hurt her (Big star dating small town girl would be bound to cause some problems!) We would go out on the weekend To escape our busy lives -He'd take her on adventures and make her happy and just be with HER on the weekends. And we'd laugh at all the douche bag guys Chasing down their desperate wives -they'd be so happy together no one would even compare and he'd treat her so well. | Alex isn't auto-tuned, I thought he was too, his voice is just really mature in this song because they took a more soft, lullaby approach> Alex's voice varies in every album so much so that it takes a second to catch the similarities. There isn't ANY auto-tune just voice equalizers and sound affects auto-tune is completely different. I make this mistake ALL the time! | |

| I seriously love this song, you can almost feel raw emotions from it. The more you listen the deeper it becomes for you. Alex has an amazing voice and the rest of the guys definitely bring their A-game in this song. The first few times I listened to it, it didn't click that this was in Alice In Wonderland (AIW) so I took it for a real meaning I sat back and thought about it and what I concluded was: It's about someone who is waiting, waiting for what can be interpreted in a few different ways such as waiting for a lover to come back or trying to persuade them to stay, OR waiting for a deceased loved one to come back. While this may not be the intended meaning I took it to be the latter if you would imagine 'UP' the Disney movie. Carl continues to go about his life after his wife passes and continues their dream, hence "I'm STILL painting flowers for you", it means your not ready to let go you want them back so you figure if you continue you'll still have the memories that it is just as good as having them there with you. The other idea, that its about waiting for a lover, is more popular and has a stronger connection he's waiting for her to come back he wants her back so he is doing everything he can to get her back he didn't want her to walk away. Mind you this is all I concluded BEFORE finding out about the AIW connections which made the song even more meaning to me. All Time Low is amazing to me there songs while playful and exciting are also meaningful and deep. | |
