| David Allen Coe – Would You Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone) Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I feel like the song is about love between a woman and a man. They are asking all the hard questions of each other rather than asking all the easy questions about love. Most agree to be together through the good times but take off through the hard times. They stop loving one another when times get hard. She/he wants to make sure the other will still be around through the hard time, hence lay with me in a field of stone instead of a bed of roses. If my lips were dry in the midnight hour would you wet them, I take to mean if he/she was sick and unable would the other be there to help and comfort the other. Would you still love me when I'm down and out means if he/she was depressed or sad instead of happy all the time would the other stick around. Also I feel that they're asking would you lay with me in a field of stone (hard times) or just lay with me when the bed of life is soft? If my needs were great: would u not run away. Would you go away to another land, walk a thousand miles through the burning sand I feel he/she's asking if that's how far the other would have to go to get to the other are they willing to go that far? Wipe the blood away from my dying hand I take to mean if she/he was injured and that was all the other could do to comfort them would they at least do that? Just my thoughts. | |
