Clutch – Pulaski Skyway Lyrics 1 year ago
@[clutch:51997]-enthusiast I gotta disagree with your hoffa / union interpretation. They fit this puzzle as it was the recklessness of the unions that led to the offshoring of jobs. Unions played a pivotal role in the empowerment of the American worker. Collective bargaining created , in part, the very path to the American dream for the working class. But. They got drunk on their success and pushed too far asking for a little (a lot?) too much - forcing the corporations to look elsewhere for cheaper labor. First in the non union southern states then eventually overseas.

The Who – The Punk And The Godfather Lyrics 2 years ago
I've heard it said that the truly great songs are ones that can be interpreted in different ways, by different listeners regardless of the performers Original intent.

Having been a lifelong fan of the who and this song in particular it's grown to mean something slightly different from its intended message. Yes, I understand it's relation to the movie quadrophenia and how it relates to the plot. However, I think most of the lyrics in this song ring true for any free thinker. Libertarian type...any individual who has lived ior is living in any Western democracy ie the United States or England
. We have so-called elected officials who are put in place as the results of a macabre theater called elections and are viewed by the general public as public servants. However, there is so much more in there that goes on than meets the eye so much behind the scenes. So much governing done by those who aren't elected those who are always there in place. state department types... the career policy wonks.... In other words, the fix is in. It's all determined what's going to happen ahead of time by a small group of those in the know or so they think, and we're just fed crumbs and we're told that they are a feast and we're conditioned to enjoy this feast and be thankful for it and to think of it as some great orgy of democratic freedom. But no. The path is fixed and the destinations we strive to reach are so very limited and predetermined.
" Just because you can't see the fences doesn't mean you're not a prisoner"

The Black Angels – The Prodigal Sun Lyrics 2 years ago
This song was my introduction to the black angels. I heard it , appropriately, upon returning to California after visiting home for the first time in 14 years without any contact during that absence. The mood of this song grabbed me.

I Mother Earth – Summertime In The Void Lyrics 3 years ago
I\'ve been into IME for approximately 20 years give or take.... This song was my gateway to them. Here I sit in the spring of 2022, having been home for the first time in 15 years over this past winter, and I\'m now about to leave to go back to California for, at least the summer , and who knows how much longer. Never has the lyrics to this song resonated with me to such a degree as they do right now. It\'s amazing how the same song , over time, can change in meaning simply because our perspective has shifted over time , as life tends to do . Thank you , ime. You\'ve given me comfort in a time of change and self doubt. Thank you.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – So Divided Lyrics 4 years ago
The first half only sets the table. It is not what the song is about. The first half paints a picture of people who are at odds converging to socialize , but ultimately to fight, most likely with mortal outcomes.
Now, the second half is sung from the point of view of death. Death glibly reminds all that our differences divide us and more than anything are folly. Wastes of time, energy, love, and ultimately life. Death is being a smart ass - snidely telling us it will relieve all of us of these bullshit miseries which are in large part self imposed anyhow . No body alive will escape what death was put down here to do.
So don't waste the most precious thing you'll ever know - especially with hate and strife.

Neil Young – Comes a Time Lyrics 5 years ago
So very often, regardless of when or where it is that I hear this song , I am moved to tears. Not only is the meaning of the lyrics touching, but the memories that are attached can overwhelm. I remember my wife of 20 years, all we've been through and what we've done . it reminds me of our son, and what a wonderful experience raising him and being his father was for me.
I miss them both so much, and this song takes me back to them unlike anything else .....

Lagwagon – Obsolete Absolute Lyrics 5 years ago
So poignant, an incredibly spot on commentary on the world view of older rockers like myself.
It captures the sense of inevitability and overall sadness that many people over a certain age view the changes foisted upon society.
Although this point of view may be depressing in its content, i personally take a small amount of comfort in the fact that it is relatable to so many other likeminded folk.

Army of Anyone – Goodbye Lyrics 7 years ago
I mostly agree with those who have commented already, with a small difference. I see the singer as someone who at first longed for the separation or parting. This evolves over the course of the song in a "careful what you wish for, you might get it" vibe. The singer (upon realizing the grass is not greener now) then longs for and misses the departed. A sense of regret , maybe , is implied. This sort of illustrates how some people's grief, and growth evolves at these points in our lives.

Silversun Pickups – The Royal We Lyrics 7 years ago
Not trying to piss anyone off, but my opinion for around eight years of hearing this song is that it's about a forbidden love - namely an incestuous love between first cousins or possibly siblings.
Go back through the words with this in mind and you'll see how well it works. This is most likely an incorrect interpretation, but it is what has always jumped into my mind when hearing this song.
By the way -REGARDLESS- of its meaning, I think we can all agree that it is one incredibly beautiful, rowdy, and urgent pieces of rock and roll.

Feeder – Forgive Lyrics 7 years ago
I remember discovering them when "polyethylene" came out. I was 30 and the girl I was dating went to see then with me and she became a fan ( even though she was previously into only r&b). This was the the beginning of her conversion to rock and roll as well as what would be an 18 year marriage. I miss her so much.

Pulley – Lifer Lyrics 7 years ago
This song , and "soberbeah" are the two songs by these guys that have really resonated with me the most. Especially the line "I guess my punishment is my salvation", this line confused me for years, until an event in my life opened my mind to its meaning. A divorce from my wife of 19 years. It was as I grieved , I began to process how the end of this partnership to my "soulmate" (my punishment) was also the end of what was also a toxic relationship that was crippling me in many ways, a perspective that was impossible to see while still in that marriage (my salvation). Very personal, I know, possibly not what was the exact intended meaning, but there you go. My thanks to the members of this group for several years of providing for me the soundtrack to my life. I'm eternally grateful.

Pulley – Insects Destroy Lyrics 7 years ago
This is on the surface, about our society's worship of the dollar and devaluation of the individual and his dreams. It was inspired by the lead singer's years in professional baseball and how he witnessed and was subjected to the process of greed over taking the joy of excelling at a childhood game.

@[Jbob2bop:26722] how honest ! I hear you. If only more people could assess emotional issues in such a fair minded way. Somewhere along the way , SOMEONE had a very positive influence upon you, for I find it hard to believe that you would have arrived at such a mature and unobscured viewpoint of your parents and upbringing without such guidance. Congratulations on doing the heavy lifting both emotionally and mentally that escapes most of us regardless of our upbringing. Godspeed.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Muzzle Lyrics 8 years ago
This is one of those rare songs, from any genre of music, that seems to resonate in every persons DNA. It recognizes the common denominator in us all, those moments of epiphany in life, be they good or bad, that every deep thinking person will experience - a survey of a person's life from a mountain top view. You look back and realize you were never quite where you thought you were at that moment in your past , but in discovering this, youve learned more and now have a deeper understanding. For better or for worse, but at least now you know.

Chevelle – Blank Earth Lyrics 8 years ago
I met my wife in 1997 . As we got to know each other , I was also beginning my love with Chevelle, who I turned my wife onto. Fast forward to 2016. While going through a strained time with each other, she reintroduced me to this band I've loved so much but had forgotten about for a couple years while immersing myself into punk. It was this song she had playing on her phone call that day in September, and although I haven't seen her for three months now, I'm forever grateful for almost 20 years of memories , many built around our common love of Good rock, I won't ever trade them for anything. Thanks baby.
