"White Stones, Queens 1974 Fathers talking shit Motherfucker slam the door Hittin' the streets runnin' can I take this any more? In the reins of the trains I cuddle on the floor " Kid lives in a rich comfortable existence (White Stones is a fancy neighbourhood in NYC) but has an abusive father. The kid get's kicked out of the home. He finds himself on a train headed anywhere (symbolic of his lack of control over his own life) "Well the park bench, door and Sleeping in the rain Little kids sitting in the shooting gallery Set yourself up From innocence to misery Oh if this is what you want not The way of what they fucking say " The kid finds himself sleeping rough and becoming a part of the underbelly of the city. "Hanging out with Sid yet again in the USA Sidney Sidney in the USA " My only guess here is that the kid is turned onto punk music and identifies with Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols (who also had a heroin addiction). "Lower east side 1976 Who's got the dope and Who's turning tricks? Should I call a user all for a fix? Ripping off some lady just to avoid from gettin' sick" Two years after being thrown out of his home, he finds himself in the Lower East Side (NYC projects area with traditionally bad drug problems, better now, but was real bad in the 1970's, basically a slum). The kid is a junkie and disgusted with what he is having to do to feed his habit. "But a life runs low when you got no where to go What the fuck happens to your soul when your low Is he comin' over is he comin' home Oh momma's disappointed waiting by the phone " This addresses the internal conflict of being faced with an impossible situation of hardship and addiction, and being forced to have to abandon your morality, conscience and soul in order to survive. At this point, his mother is trying to be supportive, but he has become self sabotaging towards any lifeline like this. "Same fucking shit 1998 Lifting bait, and by the motherfuckers that he hates Hit some fucking people by the Kennedy strait Who's got the bag gonna seal his fate?" I don't think the lyrics here are entirely correct, but the basics of the verse is that the kid has now got into some heavier crime, and deadly rivalries. I can't find references to 'Kennedy Strait' anywhere, but assume it's street vernacular for an industrial docks area in NYC known as a place to do dirty work. The kid makes the wrong enemy and is killed. "Well the park bench, door and Sleeping here for free Little kids sitting in the shooting gallery Set yourself up from innocence to misery Well this is what you want Not the way, what they fucking say " This is an epigram of the Kids life.. he had no chance, just trying to do the best he could in the situation he had. This is not the life promised by our society. |

This is such a beautiful song. "What if I... Got right into My mind's velocity What if I... Finally discovered The rules of eternity" I think this poses the question of: "What kind of realisations we would have if it was possible for our consciousness to become one with the universe.. what truths would become evident?" "What if I tell you What we live for, what we die for What if I tell you That you will be born again What if I tell you What we live for, what we die for What if I tell you That you will be born again... And you will do it all over again... And again, and again, and again" This section can probably best be summarised by reading 'The Egg' by Andy Wier: http://www.galactanet.com/oneoff/theegg_mod.html "Will you stop running? Will you stop hiding? And looking for material things Will you start searching... Will you start seeking for Your immortal wings" This section reminds us that existence is more than just the pursuit of material things in our present life. Having "immortal wings" is the state of mind that comes from the realisation that we are more than just our individual life. Our actions impact not just on us, but everyone around us (who are ultimately just other manifestations of ourself), as such, if we remember to behave in a way that considers these other lives, we begin living in a way that crosses the mortal coil. |
