This song could be about throwing it all away, sort of checking out from who you were because of depression or addiction. He feels that his new life on "his own road" is his where his fate lies, but recommends you don't follow because it's fueled by misery and frustration. "Forgot my woman, lost my friends Things I'd done and where I've been" It seems this former way of life is so far in the rear view mirror that he's pretty much forgotten it and the people in it.
