The meaning of the song “No Ordinary Love” can be easily interpreted because of it’s literary devices and the repetitive dialogue-type format used. An attentive listener will say that the song is about the relationship between a human and God. The lyrics show the sinful nature of humans and the forgiveness of God. It can be assumed that the song is about the Christian God from the way that He is mentioned. Since this genre is comprised of both screaming and singing, the author of the song takes advantage of that for the purpose of making the theme more clear. These tonal methods are loosely attached to two separate characters in the story line. With some changes of speaker, the voice of the sinner is portrayed with screaming to show the savagery of humanity. With shifts towards the voice of God in chorus, the most charismatic sounds of singing are placed to show loving forgiveness, which is a staple in the mood here. Besides the methods of sound emission, the author also uses rhyme in one section to add to the musical effect. The most rhythmic line goes, “But I know you’re here. I shiver as you whisper in my ear, ‘Child, have no fear’”. This isn't the key line of the song, but it’s still significant. Literary techniques are spread to places where the author wishes to convey the most meaning, including here. The key line is, “Just know every time you run I’ll be right here waiting!” This part is an amalgamation of the entire song’s overall message of forgiveness and patience. The most prominent literary device factored into this song is parallelism, as it is with many other songs of this genre as well. This can be seen in pretty much any of the verses because of it’s frequency. The musicians create a strong story with a normal amount of mainstream literary devices. Altogether, this song is directed towards Christian beliefs with many elements of metalcore music used to enhance the overall mood. |
