I don't think "On every street" is a crappy album, in fact, I really like it, and I think it's one of his best up to that point in Knopfler's career. Songs like 'My Parties", obviously a satire on the Hollywood set, "Ticket to Heaven' A slap in the face to the Radio preachers. Have you really listened to the Album priorly, or just expected another 'Sultans of swing' type of song? I suggest you go back and have a proper listen, because 'crappy' it ain't. |

I love the reference to Colonel TomParker as the lying dutchman. Parker made up a yarn to explain his past, climbing he was born in America. It worked for a long time, until his family in Holland recognised him. He screwed Presley, taking a commission of 50% of Presley's earnings towards the end of his career. |

"5:15am" is the best song on Shangri-La, without a doubt. I think Our Shangri-La is it's nearest rival. Though" Boom, like that" is a brilliant song about a ruthless businessman, though with this album, containing so many great songs, not everyone is going to agree on which is the best. Mark Knopfler is definitely one of the finest musicians and lyricist around and this is probably his best album |

There reference to 'Henry's hammer' refers to Henry Cooper, the British heavyweight boxer, who sat the then Cassius Clay on his backside, and almost beat him.
Cassius Clay then went on to do the 'impossible' and defeated Sonny Liston.
Cassius Clay later changed his name to Mohammed Ali. |
