| This is my interpretation too. | |

| It's sheer complete brilliance. I interpret it as a girl in a same sex relationship who left her coat on a train. I love this song! | |

Yeah, I can identify with this. It's actually spot on for me! Except I'm not and never have been a girl but yeah, the rest fit's like a glove! |

You shouldn't be sorry, it's an interesting perspective. Thanks! |

Some shocking comments on here. Maybe just shows the state of people's minds. I feel the song, like a lot of songs are to a great extent open to the individual to interpret. Me? "Don't call me daughter" This could be some one not wanting to be the daughter of a particular parent, maybe the child simply disliked the parent and therefore did not want to acknowledge the blood tie of mother/daughter. It could be something as simple as (but probably isn't) the parent woke the child up one morning from a nice sleep in a warm bed, and attempted to force the child to listen to the parent reading a book. Maybe the parent was not good enough. Maybe the child did not feel good enough. Maybe the parent was too pushy and disguised it as only wanting the best for the child. The song does not appear to mention a father. The shades down, a painted room screams institution to me. Maybe the daughter has been institutionalised. Mental abuse does scar people. People do themselves harm by believing the worst in people (and songs) like interpreting a situation, as harm when there is no harm. I love the song |
