| The Offspring – Self Esteem Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Yeah I can relate, except I'm a girl and went through this bullshit with a guy...a guy named Raymon Chiaverelli to be exact. Like you, epp88, Ray did all the shitty stuff the girl in the Offspring song did, except he never gave me lots of sex or even any sex really. Ray obviously has a Madonna-whore complex. Ugh he spends his days reaching out to any and every cute looking girl (especially the alternative looking or emo chicks), and he goes for a lot of girls, so the issue wasn't that he was celibate in general or asexual, he just acted that way towards ME...yet called me an "evil bitch" when I finally told him, right after he dumped me, that I would no longer be waiting around in celibacy for him and would look to hook up and date other guys since he'd dumped me. I guess he didn't want me, but didn't want anyone else to have me either. Ugh. You can find him on Facebook. Search Facebook for "ra browneyes" of Bethlehem, PA. A stupid disgusting whore. | |

It's pretty obvious that this song is about Brad Nowell proclaiming that he doesn't want to be "tied down" to a marriage commitment, that he'd rather be free, and that he feels that marriage isn't necessary in modern society, given that people freely have sex and even kids without marriage (whereas back in the day, it was "first comes marriage"). However, I find that the whole premise of this song is hypocritical, given that Brad Nowell indeed ended up getting married before he died. He was still in his 20s too (28), the average age that males marry, so it wasn't even like he waited a long time to finally settle down. I think Brad's contradiction is very typical and representative of most guys today. Most dudes will claim that they don't want to think about marriage and they only want to "have fun" and f**k around but "nothing serious". But then right after they reject you, *WHAM!*--they meet a girl that they quickly fall "so in love with" and they end up hitched. In fact, I've had it happen with so many exes and former guy friends of mine, that I honestly feel like the reverse gender version of Chuck in the rom com movie Good Luck Chuck. I do. I think a lot of guys claim they don't want marriage as a lame excuse for not being that into a girl, and thus not wanting to give her a relationship or anything that would show that they take her seriously. I think most guys are like Brad Nowell in that sense. In my opinion, that's what's really wrong "with the world today," in terms of romance/social aspects. |
