The Smashing Pumpkins – Sweet Sweet Lyrics 9 years ago
Sweet agony is a metaphor for an orgasm like "le petit morte"

Its about an ambiguous relationship with a "loose woman", Corgan or the protagonist respects her and wants more, but the woman is a free spirit

That's how I read it, sad and beautiful

The Fall – Squid Lord Lyrics 9 years ago
Cathulu, The Kracken, Tennyson, Captain Beefheart who knows

A squid in a polyethaline bag is fast and bulbous, got me?

Well know actually

Great song though

Pixies – The Holiday Song Lyrics 11 years ago
The song is clearly on a religious theme as is most of Come on Pilgrim.

This time its original sin.

A priest explains to a young Black that he is wicked like Adam who fell from glory in the Garden of Eden because of original sin. The sister is Eve, who man turned from a concept to reality through works or art and other earthly pursuits and together they fell from grace when they had sex...our time on earth "aint no holiday" its penance...and here is Frank with his hand (making songs)

That is just to confirm.. its not about being caught masturbating...and being told a story about someone similar that ended up having sex with their sister

Pixies – Caribou Lyrics 11 years ago
Oh, give me a home where the Buffalo roam
Where the Deer and the Antelope play;
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the sky is not cloudy all day.

Manic Street Preachers – The Everlasting Lyrics 11 years ago
Seems like a very personal song to me... simply reflective, or perhaps Nicki is observing they are portrayed now. They first album can be full of righteous indignation without rebuke as they haven’t "made it" at that point.

I was privileged to talk with James in about 2005…while he was thoroughly nice, he was very guarded and “media savvy”… totally different to 1992. This is what this song makes me think of.

Manic Street Preachers – Kevin Carter Lyrics 11 years ago
People are facinated by what repels them I think the line "The elephant is so ugly he sleeps his head" - is comparing Kevin Carter to John Merrick.

Myth has grown around him being ambivolent to the plight of the child he photographed. The eyewitnessess recount that the childs parents where mearely meters away getting food from a UN plane.

Its a very thought provoking line as journalists have a dualistic possition in both making money and raising awareness of horrific situations. Perhaps the same could be said of the Manics.
