When i listen to this song I feel its about trying to make your way through the world with weed as a passenger. It invokes that anxious feeling when you're surrounded by people not in the same headspace as you, pushing and shoving with an urgency that seems obscene. That cycle where you just wish everyone would go away and then you realise you've put yourself in this positon. The person is very self-depricating in the narrative and I think this is indictative of becoming frustrated and then understanding that it's your own fault.....................like when i get too high and then have to go for Sunday dinner with my in-laws.....or go to a meeting.......or travel by public transport. |

This song really gets my blood up in a way few songs can (Jambi being another one). This is my favourite tool song by a margin. Who are you to wave your finger? So full of it Eyeballs deep in muddy waters Fucking hypocrite. Just who the fuck do you think you are telling me what to do with my mind and body? Worse still you chug down scotch until you sleep and have the nerve to look down on me as drug user? Whether you buy in to the propaganda on drugs or you're using it to further your agenda, you're either an idiot or a liar. Fuck you. |

I take this song at face value as the narrative of a guy hypnotised by a stripper, but also more widely as how one person can put another on a pedestal and lose all reason in their adoration. For some reason I always conjure the image of Salma Hayek in From dusk til dawn when i listen to it. Her demonic dancer is bristling with sexual energy and power, and she holds the gaze of the entire room. Maynard's slow swirling delivery in the beginning gives way to frantic, agressive pleading by the end "ONE KISS, ONE TASTE!" and i get the feeling he feels as exploited as the dancer by his desire. As a side note, i think that, ironically, this song would make an excellent song to strip to. Sultry and passionate with lulls and bursts. No dobut this was intentional. |

| Radiohead – Climbing Up the Walls Lyrics | 11 years ago |

To me this song covers a dual theme. A) Paranoia about the "bogeyman" coming to get you. Represented on a childish level with "shut the eyes in the cupboard" and carried into adulthood where this fear spreads to the ones you love being harmed with "lock the kids up safe tonight". B) The realisation that you are the bogeyman. We all have the potential to do great harm and domestic violence is as likely to happen as a threat from the street. You can't turn away from the danger, everyone is capable of nightmareish acts given the right stimulus and "climbing the walls" in our increasingly (just actually stopped to consider when this came out, i didnt even have a mobile phone!) isolated home life is not helping this at all. |

| Radiohead – Jigsaw Falling into Place Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Gotta say i think this is just a poetically written timeline of your average night out. I've heard Thom deriding the booze culture before, and when you get to his (and my) age, you can see more than ever before the seedy, manic nature of city nightlife. | |

I think i lot of people's understanding of thesde lyrics run deeper than mine. For me, it resonates with a memory of being in a fresh water lake on a quiet island (Birabeen on fraser island). The tranquility and beauty of that place filled me with both euphoria and melancholy, just like this song does. It was so perfect, i was so far away from home and my job, relationships and society where people do get hurt and I do things wrong. But the temporary nature of it made me sad. "This isn't life, why cant this be life?" I thought to myself. When i hear this song my eyes glaze over I and think of that place (although there was no pier), I wish i could be there instead of here in competition against my fellow man. I dont really want a fraction of what i fight for, and i'd give it up for more moments like those if I had the courage. A little childish I know, but this song also makes me think what it used to be like being a child when there was no such thing as wasting time and you'd be outside somewhere until there was no light left. |
