Like many of their songs, this is more a "tone poem" of thoughts and emotions. Everytime I hear it, I feel something different and pick up on a different lyric. It's adaptable to how I feel, and that's why I love it. Melancholy everytime. |

To me, this is a like a mood poem--I can't overanalyze it. It is what it is...to add interpretation would ruin it.
It reminds me of early R.E.M. songs or early Feelies music where mumbled lyrics created a tapestry of feeling with different words and ideas drifting through and having impact at different times. The song is musically similar to "Coming Through," but I will gladly forgive that fact because I love "Coming Through" as well. |

A beautiful, haunting tid bit of a song. It stirs the melancholy in me, that for certain.
I agree that it's about how when a relationship is waning, a sudden "emergency" can bring people back together, whether that emergency is real or self-created. But it's an echo of the past when you needed each other; it's hollow now. When the crisis ends, the distance re-appears. And yet he clings to hope of a second try, sometime in an idealized, unachievable summer that he knows will never happen. |

According to iTunes, this is my favorite song, and it's actually darn close. So haunting, yet it makes me feel alive. Instantly takes me back to my youth in the middle of the AZ desert, just driving and driving all alone. Out of this awful city, out of this crowd and into my happy place.
Let it feel like before...Comin' through either way. |
