I know this song is about Dennis missing his wife when he is on tour, but I also like to see the song in a different story. To me, the setting of this story is at New York's Penn Station in 1942. I see a soldier saying goodbye to his girlfriend before he is deployed. He says to her, "Babe I'm leaving I must be on my way The time is drawing near My train is going" She starts to cry, and he is empathizing with her: "I see it in your eyes The love, the need, your tears" He to will be lonely without her, and he expresses to her that she will be his strength as he fights in war: "But I'll be lonely without you And I'll need your love to see me through So please believe me My heart is in your hands And I'll be missing you" Again he reiterates how she will be his strength: "'Cause you know it's you babe Whenever I get weary And I've had enough Feel like giving up You know it's you babe Giving me the courage And the strength I need" Saying goodbye is hard, but he is trying to stay positive: "Babe, I'm leaving I'll say it once again And somehow try to smile" Love will be hard to forget, and he wishes that this pain could be gone for only a little while: "I know the feeling we're trying to forget If only for a while" As he boards the train he says again: 'Cause I'll be lonely without you And I'll need your love to see me through Please believe me My heart is in your hands 'Cause I'll be missing you Babe, I love you Babe, I love you Ooh, babe" |
