This is a song about a woman who has Borderline Personality Disorder, who needs a lot adulation and attention to exist. "The one you really adore" is said mockingly because this woman is clearly shallow and drops people as soon as she has them. Her rejection of the singer is reversed by the end of the song when he leaves her alone with her issues, her constant inability to feel loved or fulfilled that lies beneath her promiscuity and narcissism.
