Some people watch; some people pray, But even lights can fade away. Some people hope; some people pay, But why'd we have to stay? He is talking to the audience about the audience and mcr's situation. The light signifies success and even at the top of their career as performers they can still be ruined by a bad album at any time. "some people hope; some people pay, but why'd we have to stay?: this addresses the people again and the process of being with mcr and supporting them through everything, people hope with them and some people pay to see them. But at the end of the day. Why did they have to stay? They've entertained people for a long while and that is a good enough contribution. Cause even here; we're scared to bruise, Or any misery you choose. You like to watch; we like to use, And we were born to lose. This explains the fears of mcr. Because even at the very top of their career they're scared to fail. They are scared of criticism. He then explains that people as an audience enjoy their entertainment and they as performers like to entertain. But no matter at what point In their carrers as artists they were bound to fail. Whether on a high or in a low at some point they were gonna lose. I choose defeat. I walk away, And leave this place, the same today. Some like to sleep; we like to play. Just look at all that pain. But because of the fact they will eventually fail, he chooses defeat and leaves, but he leaves it the same as when he entered into it. Some other artists like to sleep. And lose their talent. These however like to play. This toys with the emotions he is feeling inside so it becomes very painful. You want the heart and to be saved, But even good guys still get paid. So watch my back and keep the blade; I think it got you laid. Performers give People their heart's through their music. The public still want them to perform. They want them to save them through their music. Through relating to lyrics. This is clawed as a way of saving someone. But even other performers that are out there that are just as good get paid. There are other bands out there." So watch my back and keep the blade" is Gerard explaining that because he is leaving and on good terms with the audience please don't stab him in the back when he's turned his back on you. Because throughout the years they've had many albums. Some that you would play to a girl/boy or relate to in a way that it helped you with a relationship of some kind so much so that it got you laid. So fake your death or eat your blame, And leave the lights on when you stay. Take off your clothes and dream that fake. Come on and feel that shame. So in the end you have two choices. You can fake your death, by carrying on and pretending that you're all still working at the top of your game and keep performing even though you know you aren't as good as you were. Or you can accept the fact that you are not what you once were and swallow your pride as there is no-one to blame it on. "And leave the lights on when you stay" But if you carry on you need to make sure that you're performing at the very best still at the pinnacle when the lights are shining. You need to take off your clothes and expose yourself to the world and dream that you aren't what you truly are. Let everybody revel in the shame. In the shame of the method acting of the performance he puts on. It's just a whole lot of pain. The pain of wanting to continue but not being as good as before and to leave whilst the flame is still shining and not dimmed out. Brilliant song. Hope this helped a bit, if at all. |
