I think that most of what was said already about the lyrics being about the way she was raised up to be admired, as in, raised up as a writer and later on after she was discovered by her voice at 12 years old, encouraged to be a singer-song writer. Also makes sense that it seems to be "the closest thing to assault when all eyes are on you", because coming from a small place she wasn't used to this fame until she actually got it. She sings she will find her "own bravado" because she realizes, I believe, that this is a show, and in the show she is Lorde, and Lorde may be way braver than Ella, and also knows that a bravado is something most people end up developing in the showbizz. It's not that they're not honest. It's just that it's hard to deal with performing for so many people and being a celebrity, answering so many questions. And even though she wants the applause and the approval she is quite different from most newly famous people. I can sense she still loves her background and the way she is. I guess the way she lived and was raised up prepared her for many things, and being herself was probably the one she treasures the most. |
