| This song can have a very political meaning to it. Many people's hatred towards the government due to the neglection they feel. Then putting all their anger and frustration out on everyone. This can refer back to the shooting at the Elementary school and the movie theatre. Taylor's basically saying: "Yeah, you're alone. You're afraid. You feel like people don't understand you, but that doesn't give you the right to take it out on other (innocent) people." This song is badass and it's definitely my favourite on the album. | |

I'm pretty sure this song was written about his pet turtle. He had mentioned in an interview that he had bought turtles because he liked them. He's point of view towards them were quite strange but totally understandable. He mentioned that turtles were chill pets; the type of pets that didn't need to be impressed or were never impressed. He liked their "I don't give a fuck" attitude. They're always getting flipped over their backs and they can't get back up. I guess he saw himself in these pet turtles in a bizarre way. But the song could be about a controlling relationship where the girl is treated like a useless "pet" or whatever. I'm not really sure but Kurt did say that people shouldn't put so much meaning into his lyrics. This man was always a mystery to me, and still will remain one. |

The song is so hauntingly, beautiful, I just want to go up to Kurt and bow. The song is relatable and genius. "Dumbing" yourself down just to be like everyone else. To try to fit into everyone's happiness; thinking it will do the same to you. It's what we all do. Sometimes we become so ashamed of ourselves, that the very thought of us makes us sick. "The sun is gone, but I have a light." There's nothing left of him, but if he uses this artificial, fake light, then he'll regain his somewhat "happiness." Which is fake. It's like also saying "I'm pretty dumb for doing this but whatever, if it means that I get to be somewhat "happy" and people will see that, then so be it." He's given up with honesty of himself. He's given up in general, I should say. We've been there, even Kurt. He just couldn't handle it obviously. Like people say: "Sometimes you gotta fake it to make it." God bless him. |

I agree that this song is about Kurt's personal issues, including his parents divorce, his father typically not being in his life, the toxic rumours that were being spread about his wife Courtney Love and so on. He did mention that he felt like all his ideas, beliefs, and opinions were becoming over-analyzed by the media and it really frustrated him. The whole "Serve the servants" bit looks to me what the media is doing. The servants meaning the people who feed onto the lies and bullshit, the 'tabloid junkies.' This is actually one of my favourite Nirvana songs, it was written in such a genius way. |

In my personal opinion, I don't think this song is about his Heroin addiction, noting that he hadn't really done any hard drugs until the release of Nevermind and when he had been married to Courtney Love. (I am not putting blame on her in any way, so get that out of your head). I was watching a documentary and it said that Kurt had written this song about his relationship with Tobi Vail at the time, in whom he was madly in love with. I'm sure the whole Aneurysm bit is a metaphor. But I do know that the line "Love you so much, it makes me sick." was regarding to him actually vomiting because he was so infatuated with her, it caused him anxiety. But Nirvana songs can be easily misinterpreted, and can be many different things to people. Great song by the way. |

I'm quite sure that this song is about his toxic relationship with Tobi Vail at the time. It almost sounds as if he's desperate to get her back - saying things like "We don't have to breed. We can plant a house, we can build a tree." Almost like he's offering all the things she wanted at the time but wasn't too sure if Kurt was the one she wanted to settle down with. However, Nirvana songs can always be misinterpreted and over-analyzed to an extreme. Many people have their own interpretations on Kurt's writing pieces. It's a brilliant song and definitely one of my favourites on Nevermind. |

It's most obvious that this song is about infidelity; cheating, could be in his own past relationship with Tobi Vail in whom he was deeply infatuated with. She could possibly be cheating on him with one his friends hence the lyrics "I smell her on you." Although he know this is happening, he does not want to confront the problem in fear of her living him because of his "outrageous" behaviour. So, he "keeps fighting the jealousy until it's fucking gone." He composes himself of severely hurting the guy who his girl is seeing. Also why he says "I'll arrest myself and wear a shield." Basically the song is just about a toxic relationship. One partner is cheating on the other; while the other is quite aware. However, they are so infatuated and obsessed that they can't seem to confront or leave the situation because they still feel the need to stay because they 'love' that person and do not regret anything. Although many people can analyze Nirvana songs and go such in unnecessary depth, this song is quite clear and the message is right on the surface. |
