Most people see this song like she just got out of a failed relationship and she's met someone who is nicer and cares about what she thinks. To me? This song is about how she's in a relationship (an unhealthy one) and finally realizes it's unhealthy. So they decide to spend some time apart to try to get better. And after all that time of being separated, they decide to see each other again. And suddenly, it's better. He's a better man. And treats her better. "And you throw your head back laughing Like a little kid I think it's strange that you think I'm funny cause He never did I've been spending the last 8 months Thinking all love ever does Is break and burn and end But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again" He's beginning again. They're beginning again as renewed people. And she's so relieved and surprised by his behavior. "And we walked down the block, to my car And I almost brought him up But you start to talk about the movies That your family watches every single Christmas And I want to talk about that And for the first time What's past is past" When she says "almost brought him up" it's like she's referring to his past self. But she realizes that he's beyond that version of him. So she should too. |

| This song to me holds a great significance. In my eyes, I see a good relationship that was torn apart by the guy's self problems. How she says "maybe this was a masterpiece til you tore it all up" it's basically saying it was perfect, you didn't have to worry. It seems that the guy had issues with himself, like when she said "you tell me bout your past, thinking your future was me" it's as if he never liked to share his past, but he felt different about her. "Running scared, I was there" is like he was thinking badly about himself and she was running after him, even though she knew how broken he was. He was so broken it destroyed their relationship "you called me up again just to break me like a promise." And he pushed her away "so casually cruel in the name of being honest" so basically he loved her, but knew she didn't deserve someone like him. So he hurt her to make sure she'd stay away. And he keeps that scarf, because its all he has left of her. I have a personal connection kinda thing and that's how I got this out of the song :P | |
