Half The World Away was written when Noel left the band for the first time. Whilst the band was in America, Noel travelled back to England, and wrote the song. He was tired of all the rants and arguments with his brother, and you can see in the lyrics: "Here I go, I'm still scratching around in the same old hole". He's tired of arguing all the time. And it keeps happening, and it's beggining to be a habbit. "My body feels young but my mind is very old" - At this point Noel wasn't too old, but he'd been through so much in life that he felt old. Matured. Different to Liam maybe, who was still into the swearing and fighting. "So what do you say?" What does Liam think of all this? It's a retorical question, Noel doesn't expect a worthy answer from Liam. "You can't give me the dreams that are mine anyway" This could be talking about how Liam got him into the band and started it all for Noel, but really Noel was going to do it anyway. "Half the world away, half the world away" One is in America, the other is in England. |

This seems to be mostly tribute to John Lennon. The start of the song is "Imagine" by the legend. Then, in the bridge the lyrics go "So I start a revolution from my bed". This is could do with the protest Lennon did staying in bed in Amsterdam and Montreal. Noel says that he quoted John Lennon's "You said the brains I had went to my head" from John Lennon too. Sally is no one. In fact, Noel Gallager wasn't even singing So Sally can wait. It was Liam who miss heard him and thought he was singing that. But a fan came up to Noel asking if Sally was Sally Cinnamon from the Stone Roses'. Noel loved the idea and told her yes. |
